This is me playing a game with my students. Down 40 pounds, April 2014!

Christmas Break, 2012. I like this picture, but I remember that I had to leave my pants unbuttoned!

October, 2012I can't wait to take a picture this October to compare!

ONE ART

I love Elizabeth Bishop's sestina about losing that starts with "the art of losing isn't hard to master." I also love a quote from Alice Walker that goes "Let us be our revolution: to love what is plentiful instead of what is scarce." I am doing this differently this time. I am letting go of things one at a time. No more alcohol. No more sugar. No more rushing to travel when I need to stay home and take care of myself.

My Goals:
June 2013: I want to feel healthy. I want to stop binging and make exercise a priority. I'd like to be able to buy clothes on the "normal" side and get back into the 16's and 14's in my closet. I have a secret desire to participate in a triathlon.

January 2014: New Year, New Goals!

I am officially only moderately obese (BMI right under 35), but I would like to get out of the obesity range altogether.

I have been doing better with dressing up for work, but I would like to wear more fitting clothes and post pictures of them.
1. Blue suit
2. Black suit
3. Blue dress
4. Printed dress

I am very happy with my progress in the area of fitness, but I want to start taking on some of my fears.

1. Run a 5K
2. Go skiing
3. Bike 65 K
4. Do a headstand in yoga

My Program:
June 2013: I don't work for the summer, and I decided to focus on my body. I do nordic walking in the morning, and either walk a second time or swim in the afternoon. I started taking a yoga class. I avoid sugar and alcohol and try not to snack. I'm doing great, but I am nervous about what is going to happen once I go back to work.

September 2013: I am learning how to apply the good habits I developed this summer to a stressful work schedule. I eat breakfast at home and pack a healthy lunch everyday. I do everything in my power to leave work on time and to run or swim for at least an hour each day. I drink one beer or glass of wine each week, and I really enjoy it. I eat out a few times a week, but I eat a reasonable potion and take the rest home. I feel satisfied leaving food on my plate. I plan my meals around vegetables, lean proteins and healthy fats. Sugar is no longer part of my life. I plan weekend trips to go hiking or to run 5K races.

Personal Information:
I am a teacher working in an American school in Germany. My mantra is: GO HIKING, DRINK BEER! I'm still single, but I would like to feel good enough to try dating again. I have a dog, but she live in the USA with my parents.

Other Information:
I love reading, watching movies (especially documentaries), walking, swimming, doing yoga and traveling. My guilty pleasure is binge TV watching. Right now, I am addicted to Scandal, Breaking Bad, and Dexter.

Thanks for your comment on my "girdle" blog, I'm still waiting to see if my rebuttal letter will be printed.

Thanks for reading my post and your words of encouragement. I know the journey is different for everyone, but, for me, it is all about moderation. I love your comment about planning the days around exercise, NOT food. That is a keeper!! Thanks again!

I know; that is what the dude was trying to tell me. I increased to 1500 to 1700. Plus, it's a see saw effect; if I'm too tired, my work outs suck. Anyway, the plan is to eat more protein and raise up my cals.

Thank you for your comment on my blog. My frustration isn't with people who blog; as a writing teacher I applaud working out your issues and frustrations through writing. My frustration is with people who get thirty answers to a question and because none of them are the answer that they want, one which validates their own actions, they come up with excuses for not doing what it is that will help them.

I like your story about your parents eating potato chips during TBL. I thnk you could turn it into some sort of game--eating specific things whenever one of the coaches says one of their catch phrases.
