Somehow I HAVE to find a way to do this!

I talked in my first introduction about determination but I have lately been questioning just how determined I really am.I have a very energetic 6-yr old grandson who turns round when I'm struggling to keep up with him, puts his hands on his hips and shouts: 'Granny!!! Are you coming?' Another baby is now into his second year and I want to be able to keep up with both of them.

I have slipped and slithered here since September 2009 - eating well - eating badly. Exercising and walking intermittently or overdoing both. The thing that has kept me here is the connection with other peoples' struggles, inspiration from other peoples' successes and oceans of support and friendship. Being part of this community is the first thing to give me hope for a better life.

My Goals:
I want to get my old energy and enthusiasm back - for myself and my health and for my family. My grandchilren are my greatest joy and I want to be able to run(!!!!) with them and see them grow and develop. My friends seem to acccept me for what I am but I would like to present them with a 'new me' - or rather ' the old me' - who doesn't give up before the evening is over.

My Program:
EXERCISE

"The road to hell is paved with couches."

*I keep trying get OFF mine and walk 30 minutes every day plus 30 minutes on the exercise bike. Alongside this I plan gentle warm-ups followed by strength exercises and stretches.

*I will get out of bed immediately in the morning and DO something physical - vigorous house cleaning perhaps - my house would be delighted!

*Sadly I am pledging not to spend so much time on Spark for the moment – it’s another excuse to spend yet more time on my couch.

*I will stop using my car so much & WALK to shops and to visit friends within reasonable distances.

*I will keep my pedometer clipped to my belt to remind me to build up my daily steps.

I will plan all food and drink for the day ahead and develop better self discipline and consistency.

If I fail in any - or all - of these sometimes I will try not to give up and hide under my duvet

Personal Information:
My name is Sonia and I live by the sea in Brighton, UK. I always wanted to live by the sea and an opportunity fell in my lap with ridiculous time frames but I just flurried around and got everything sorted. So- done and dusted and I LOVE it here. I have two sons 43 and 39, a 4 yr-old grandson and now a new tiny one - just 13 months old - who is doubly precious because my son and his wife lost their middle child nearly 2 years ago in a cot death at 10 weeks. It has been very hard but little Eli is bigger and stronger and we can see the danger (which is how we inevitably see it) is past. A bad time but we seem to be getting through it despite the odd small- and large - stumble.

Other Information:
I enjoy DIY and am currently renovating a tiny stone cottage in a favourite family spot in Dorset which is giving great pleasure to myself and my sons and families. I am starting a textile course - always an interest of mine. I have also been able to do quite a lot of travelling since I retired - the Emirates - Hong Kong (3 blissful months) - Mexico and most European countries. I want to do more but my life is suspended at the moment until the family troubles stabilise.

Hi Sonia
Glad the visit went well but you give me too much credit- you have a kind heart.
Movies never happened........I have a cold and a hacking cough- dared not sit it the cinema spluttering and coughing all the time and pissing everyone off. emoticon
It's been coming on since Thursday lunch time and had some Night Nurse last night, feel a bit brighter so not going to have a pity party (as our American buddies call it).
I'm going to valet the mistress shortly and leave the painting to Pete. I need to get some fresh air today.

Glad your visit yesterday is balanced with the 70th bash today.

*never run for a bus or a man*
you'll probably fall a*se over tit and make a right IDIOT of yourself and want the earth to swallow you up.!

I refuse point blank to run for a bus, they always close the bloody door and accelerate off just as you get there anyway...remember Bob Newhart

Hi Sonia
*Do you ALLOW bumpers?* I try to avoid them but sometimes..........well s&it happens emoticon

I know how proud you are of Gareth- he's certainly doing the right thing in involving Clive. He needs all the support he can get!

I hope you've recovered from your drenching and the sun is out. it's playing peek-a-boo here, probably just as well as I wanted to finish the ceilings too, finish early and have a pamper b4 tonight.
Should be a good night, about 10 of us, we're going to another volunteer's home, Phyllis and she's such a marvelous hostess.
Have to watch the buffet emoticon

well must press on, have a great afternoon babe emoticon emoticon

Hey my spark hero buddy, was lovely to log back on after so loong and see your messages so thank you xx I havent been about so much - I have got 5 more weeks of my course in uni and can not wait to finish. I put on lots of weight over Christmas but have somehow managed to lose a little bit over the last few months. I am still bigger then usual but feel glad I am not as big as over christmas. I am really looking forward to trying to get my body back on track when my course ends and be a spark hero once again. How are you? Hope you are well xx
