Somehow I HAVE to find a way to do this!

I talked in my first introduction about determination but I have lately been questioning just how determined I really am.I have a very energetic 9-yr old grandson who turns round when I'm struggling to keep up with him, puts his hands on his hips and shouts: 'Granny!!! Are you coming?' My other grandson is nearly five and I want to be able to keep up with both of them.

I have slipped and slithered here since September 2009 - eating well - eating badly. Exercising and walking intermittently or overdoing both. The thing that has kept me here is the connection with other peoples' struggles, inspiration from other peoples' successes and oceans of support and friendship. Being part of this community is the first thing to give me hope for a better life.

My Goals:
I want to get my old energy and enthusiasm back - for myself and my health and for my family. My grandchilren are my greatest joy and I want to be able to run(!!!!) with them and see them grow and develop. My friends seem to acccept me for what I am but I would like to present them with a 'new me' - or rather ' the old me' - who doesn't give up before the evening is over.

My Program:
EXERCISE

"The road to hell is paved with couches."

*I keep trying get OFF mine and walk 30 minutes every day plus 30 minutes on the exercise bike. Alongside this I plan gentle warm-ups followed by strength exercises and stretches.

*I will get out of bed immediately in the morning and DO something physical - vigorous house cleaning perhaps - my house would be delighted!

*Sadly I am pledging not to spend so much time on Spark for the moment - it's just another excuse to spend yet more time on my couch.

*I will stop using my car so much & WALK to shops and to visit friends within reasonable distances.

*I will keep my pedometer clipped to my belt to remind me to build up my daily steps.

I will plan all food and drink for the day ahead and develop better self discipline and consistency.

If I fail in any - or all - of these sometimes I will try not to give up and hide under my duvet

Personal Information:
My name is Sonia and I live by the sea in Brighton, UK. I always wanted to live by the sea and an opportunity fell in my lap with ridiculous time frames but I just flurried around and got everything sorted. So- done and dusted and I LOVE it here. I have two sons 43 and 39, a 4 yr-old grandson and now a new tiny one - just 13 months old - who is doubly precious because my son and his wife lost their middle child nearly 2 years ago in a cot death at 10 weeks. It has been very hard but little Eli is bigger and stronger and we can see the danger (which is how we inevitably see it) is past. A bad time but we seem to be getting through it despite the odd small- and large - stumble.

Other Information:
I enjoy DIY and am currently renovating a tiny stone cottage in a favourite family spot in Dorset which is giving great pleasure to myself and my sons and families. I am starting a textile course - always an interest of mine. I have also been able to do quite a lot of travelling since I retired - the Emirates - Hong Kong (3 blissful months) - Mexico and most European countries. I want to do more but my life is suspended at the moment until the family troubles stabilise.

Hi ya
No sanding today! Too nice out!
Been for a beach walk and getting all my laundry done on the line- rain due tonight and tomorrow.
Just saw your feed and read your message on my page and I am overjoyed that you got out for an "enjoyable" walk......it somehow makes everything so much better huh?!!
The local sailing club was out in force today tacking around the bouys and a distant marker so that was fun to watch for a while and much to my amazement ( for a bank holiday) we haven't been invaded!!!!

Glad to see your determination returning too!!!! emoticon

Might get some gardening done after lunch but my back started aching on my walk so not sure, rest until after lunch and see.

Enjoy your Sunday babe emoticon emoticon

I decided to make our snake less scary I named it Spot! emoticon The problems of living next to a pond, I guess. Only we got to keep them from nesting under the house and fast! Snake repellent really works...it happened before, they were tunneling under the house. Until we did the repellent it wouldn't stop, even after filling in their holes! UGH! I don't mind harmless snakes, they do eat the mice, etc. But, when this one looked like a Copperhead...scared the life out of me! emoticon
Glad to see you back at SP! emoticon

"Dunno what the Vit.A content might be but the pleasure ratio is HIGH - even when eaten cold!"
* Yeah, I would bake a whole huge pot of them and eat one a day for 7-10 days, fry them in ccoil and put cinnamon on them.

per Wikipedia, a standard 2"x5" one has 400-450% of the USDA daily requirement
