My Journey to Better Health

I have a long road ahead while I lose over 100 pounds. My goal weight is between 150-160 pounds and I'm on track to get there. It's taken longer than I thought, but the most important lesson I learned is to pick myself up when I fail and get back on track. It's a marthon, not a sprint.

My Goals:
I don't have any interim goals - other than to continue one day at a time. I realize there will be days I go off the plan, but they will be planned in advance and limited in duration.

My Program:
Everyone has to choose a plan that fits their lifestyle. I have daily goals for calories, fat, carbs, sodium and protein. I exercise with a trainer at least once a week and hopefully 3 times a week. When I travel, I exercise at the hotel gym or in my room. The most important part of my program is monitoring what I eat. Every time I eat I am aware how my food choices affects my plan.

I haven't made significant changes to what I eat - I just have much smaller portions and I've eliminated the fatty extras - I now have mustard instead of mayonnaise, I take the slice of cheese off the sandwich, I search out low sodium or low fat versions of food.

For me, recording my daily food intake has been enormously helpful. It took about 4-6 weeks to understand how much I could eat on 1,200 calories per day, but after 5 months I have a very good sense of my limits.
