Starting Weight...Eww! Current Weight... SEXY!

On August 26th, 2012 I was Diagnosed with Diabeties and High Cholesterol... It was a Complete smack in the face and total wakeup call for me to get a grip on my life! I had never had a bigger wakeup call than that! I had a weighin at the Doctors Office and noticed that i was 238.5lbs! Although it was not as big as my heaviest weight - 302lbs back in 2008! I had never had a bigger wakeup call than that! I had a weighin at the Doctors Office and noticed that i was 238.5lbs! Although it was not as big as my heaviest weight - 302lbs back in 2008! I think this was meant to be the year that I did something amazing with my life, Something Positive! First part of September I saw a diabetic specialist and got signed up with a Registered Dietitian. I had seen an ad for a place called Spectrum Nutrition in my hometown area of Vancouver, BC. I hadnt completely decided on where i was going to get food advice but i knew Those Diabetic Dietitians at the Hospital werent going to be much help. They come accross very "cold" and one sided. I needed someone who could take the things i enjoy and turn that into a meal plan. After reading Spectrums website something the owner said popped out at me... "You should NOT half to change to fit the diet... THE DIET SHOULD FIT YOU"! She went on to say that if you come in for your first visit not liking to cook big meals or lots of planning then think thats gonna magically happen just by walking through the door. This Philosphy that they preach and teach i have learned and completely live by now, myself! When i first started My numbers were: August 28, 2012 A1C - 11.9 LDL Cholesterol - 4.2 Total Cholesterol - 6.9 Trygliceriedes - 14.5 This past season has been amazing! Beyond the amazing support I have recieved from sparkpeople and the great friends here (From all over the Globe) as well as some family, friends and co-workers I have learned more than you would ever know. Things as simple as Making sure you have Protein, Starch and Veggies at Lunch and Dinner as part of the "Plate Module". I also live smart carbbing by making sure all major carbs i eat have good fiber and good protein source attached Like keeping the Skin on when i eat Yams or Potatos and choosing Sprouted Grains when i want Bread or Whole Wheat for Pitas. I also stay smart but not having a cheat day or cheat meal. I encorperate the things I love into my meal plan instead of going off the deep end 1 day a week! Doing that just sets u up for failure in the long run and really your only cheating yourself! Thanks to all my hard work my latest numbers were much better! My numbers Mid November: A1C - 7.2 LDL Cholesterol - 0.9 (needs to be under 1.0) Total Cholesterol - 2.3 (needs to be under 3.3) Tryglicerides - 1.5 (needs to be under 2.4) I have lost over 25lbs to day since i Started this new journey back at the end of August and I am excited to see where it goes from here! Hope you can all come along and join me! Mid- Feb 2013 Update: My Latest A1C is now 6.2!!!!! I AM IN RANGE!!!! (nicely safe in range actually) I have now lost 49lbs since the start date back in september and i feel great! On Sunday March 3rd I did it! I tackeled the BC Lung Associations Stair Climb for Clean Air and walked up 48 flights of Stairs at one of Vancouver, BC''s Tallest Buildings at the Sheraton Wall Center Downtown Vancouver! It was proably the slowest time in my age category for Men 20-29 but I COMPLETED IT!!! I DID IT! I never thought a year ago that something like this was possible for a fatty like me but look at what happens when you put you mind to something and work hard! SUCCESS! I dont see my body as a compost bin or trash can anymore because its all about how you choose to feed yourself! You can pile in the Garbage just to cover your emotions or problems... only to create bigger problems down the line or you can DEAL WITH YOUR ISSUES head on and avoid serious problems down the line and feel better and more alive! Eating to cover up my true problems got me to Type 2 Diabetes in the first place but its not going to hold me here anymore! Mid May 2013 Update: My A1C has now gone down to 5.8%!!!! WOOHOOOO!!! and this past thursday at my BL Challenge Weighin I just hit the 60+lbs Lost Mark!!!! WOOHOOO!!!!! i am now down 61lbs since my Lifestyle Reconfiguration/ Diaversary last August 28th and I feel Great!!!! I also recently Joined a Zumba Live Class and go 1-2 days a week now! I am looking at Personal Training to get more Leg Strength and to add a UMPH to my workouts and Flatten my Sagging Skin around my Gutt! LOL! I also Completed my first 5K Race - The Game of Life 5K!!! I had set a time to finish in under an hour aka 60mins and crossed the finish line just around the 50min mark! WOOHOO! Next 5K race here I come! September 2014 Update... I''ve completed my nutrition specialist certification and now an a Fitness Instructor as well my current A1C is 5.4! I will be walking a half marathon on Sunday Sept 28!
