Striving for a consistent healthy lifestyle!

We are now in Florida again after being in our RV for two months, visiting family and friends back in our home state of Pennsylvania. While there, I did a lot of driving back and forth to visit my parents and went out to lunch and dinners with friends. I lost my consistent fitness routine and 10,000 step streak, as living in the RV had a lot of limitations. I ended up gaining about 8 of the 20 pounds I lost this spring and summer. Now that we are in our home in Florida again, I am gradually getting back into a consistent routine with my exercise, doing daily morning walks of at least three miles, as well as working out at the gym. Have to rein in the eating though, as we often eat out here in this retirement community. I am determined to get back on track to a healthy lifestyle, eating with moderation and mindfully! Again, the wealth of information on SparkPeople and the community support from the teams and friends I have made here give me the motivation to do well and reach my goals!

My Goals:
I would like to lose a total of 50 pounds and then maintain that weight by staying consistent in eating healthy and exercising regularly.

My Goals:

Consistency, balance, and moderation through improved daily habits of my mind, body, and spirit

My Program:
Summer 5% Challenge Exercise Commitment:

*continuing 10,000 step daily streak
*upping intensity of daily walks to include jogging intervals at least 3 days a week
*do other cardio throughout week to change it up and make it fun - stationary bike, step, dance, various fitness DVDs
*do at least 3 days of strength training a week
*include yoga/stretching into my fitness routine (some stretching every day/yoga routine at least twice a week)

Summer 5% Challenge Diet Commitment

*Eat mindfully and use moderation with portion-size.
*Avoid processed carbs/sugar.
*Eat 5+ veggies a day.

Personal Information:
I'm Amy, originally from southeastern PA, but after selling our home of 23 years, we moved to central Florida and hope to RV in the summer months. I am adjusting to an early retirement after teaching for 30 years. I've been married to my husband, Dave for almost 26 years, and we have a 25 yo son named Sean and two adorable and feisty Cairn terriers, Max and Sophie.

Other Information:
I enjoy a variety of different activities from reading and computer-time to hiking and traveling. I am a never-ending proponent of personal development.

"A WOMAN IS OFTEN MEASURED by the things she cannot control. She is measured by the way her body curves or doesn't curve, by where she is flat or straight or round. She is measured by 36-24-26 and inches and ages and numbers, by all the outside things that don't ever add up to who she is on the inside. And so if a woman is to be measured, let her be measured by the things she can control, by who she is and who she is trying to become. Because every woman knows measurements are only statistics and STATISTICS LIE." - Nike

I came across this scale on the Fitness for Weigtloss site and have been trying to use it the past few days. I like it because it’s an ongoing reminder to be to be mindful about my nutrition.(http://www.fitnessforweightloss

emoticon 0-10 Hunger Scale (0 = starving, 10 = stuffed)
0 – You are STARVING - You have waited so long to eat you can barely function.
1 – You are very hungry -You are light headed, irritable, and might have a headache. You can’t concentrate and feel very low on energy.
2 – You are moderately hungry - Your stomach has been growling for a while and you know you’ve waited too long to eat. You’ve started losing energy and focus.
If your hunger rating is 0, 1, or 2, you have waited too long to eat. At this point, you probably feel like you could eat anything and everything. When you’re this hungry, it’s hard to make healthy choices and use portion control.
3 – You are slightly hungry - Your stomach is growling and telling you it needs food (energy). This is a good time to start eating.
4 – You are hungry for a little bit more food. - You can eat a few more bites before you’ll feel like you ate just the right amount.
5 – You are CONTENT - You are neither hungry nor full. You ate just the right amount of food, enjoyed it, and feel satisfied.
6 – You have room for a few more bites. - You have room for a few more bites before you’ll start to feel full.
Pay close attention to your 4-6 ratings during a meal or snack. There is a fine line between the point when you are content, are hungry for a few more bites, and you start to feel full.  Eating slower can help you pay attention to this.
7 – You are slightly full - You know if you keep eating you will start to feel uncomfortable.
8 – You are moderately full - You know you ate too much and are thinking to yourself, “I wish I didn’t eat that last piece of (insert food)”.
9 – You are very full - You feel very uncomfortable after eating too much. You feel bloated and nauseous.
10 – You are STUFFED - You are extremely uncomfortable. Your stomach hurts and you feel sick; all you want is to lie down and make the feeling go away.
