I have been a Spark member since the beginning of this year and have really learned a lot. I am more careful about what I eat and I have become a lot more active. I still have a ways to go, but with the help of all my new friends and the Spark trackers, I know I can do this.
I was never overweight, but I was never the skinny girl in school. I was typically a size 7/8 back in the day. I didn't even get very big when I was pregnant and dropped the weight quite quickly afterward. I started to gain my weight when we moved to North Carolina. The hubby and I were both quite unhappy being so far away from family and friends. I continued to gain until I was at my heaviest of 204. I was then a size 14 comfortably.
I started a weight loss program and got down to 150 and a size 8 again. That was three years ago. I have managed to keep off most of that weight, but I did gain 30 back. I've been about to lose 10 pounds of that and I am staying steady in the low 170s. I have gotten down to 165 and then it creeps back up. When I focus, I'm better able to work off the weight and I feel so much better.
The stress of my job and my husband's travels have left me a bit unfocused lately. I am rededicating myself and will be working off the 20 pounds I need to lose!
Get into the habit of eating 5 or more fruits and veggies per day.
Train for a 5K.
Stay within my calorie, carb, fat, and sodium limits daily.
I try to get some sort of cardio workout done first thing in the morning and then get my walking in at some point during the day. I have also been tracking my food intake.
I was born and raised in Indiana, but found Michigan to be the place to spend my adult life. I teach high school for an alternative program.
I need to stop making excuses and take charge of my life and my health again. I want to run in a 5K so I will be training to do so.
Billy Blanks: I think the secret to staying motivated in a workout is to know that fitness is more than just sweating. It's a tool that teaches mental discipline on how to bring your body under control and it's fun to know you have the power to challenge your own body and to bring to light things that you never thought you could do with your body.

I just wanted to say hi and tell you that even though I've been away from SP for the past several months (bogged down with work and stress) I am looking forward to ending the mighty-year-of-challenges that has plagued me this past year and start fresh soon... I may be still a bit scarce around here for the next little while but I did want to let you know that I've been thinking of you and hope you are doing well in life, in happiness, and in your journey.

Today you have the choice to be amazing. Today you can do more than just try. You can succeed. You can be victorious. Today, you can rock your world. You can look yourself in the eye and smile... because you know that you are fighting for an amazing cause: YOU. And YOU are absolutely worth fighting for.
You can also do the same thing tomorrow.

In honour of the upcoming Summer Olympic Games this Saturday in London, I give to you the Olympic Creed which is as true for the games as it is for achieving our own goals and dreams each and every day:
"The most important thing in the Olympic Games is not to win but to take part, just as the most important thing in life is not the triumph but the struggle. The essential thing is not to have conquered but to have fought well."
Today, you are a superhero, a survivor, a warrior, and a beacon to others for honouring yourself, your mind and your body; for making the choices that will make you an even better person tomorrow.
Today you are one step closer, because you decided to be. Fight strong, fight well, fight fair.

Today is the unofficial "take happiness into your own hands" day. It's unofficial because I just made it up! (*grin*) But it seems like a great idea, right? Today, try not to be controlled by others... decide to be happy, decide to be great. Move forward as if all your dreams could come true today with no barriers standing in your way. Smile, laugh, and be amazing...
Because you ARE.
“I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today. I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn't arrived yet. I have just one day, today, and I'm going to be happy in it.” - Groucho Marx
