The Start of Something New
July 2013 Update:
I have managed to get within about 10lbs of my pre-pregnancy weight but feeling pretty happy that I have not completely fallen off the wagon through motherhood. I am confident that I will never find myself anywhere near my highest weight again and am happy to report that I have been more or less maintaining for the last couple of years. I have been able to do this with a whole host of tools and support from other like minded people. Without my health I believe I have ...

I have managed to get within about 10lbs of my pre-pregnancy weight but feeling pretty happy that I have not completely fallen off the wagon through motherhood. April 2012 Update:
I am fully diving back into SparkPeople to help me with my next goal. It was never completely gone out of my life but my SP habits certainly changed when I got pregnant last June. I now have a 1 month old baby girl and working to get that baby fat gone! I am hoping to learn the balance between reaching my goals and doing what is best for her. Which means I have to be a little more strategic and patient with my weight loss efforts. But as all moms know, it's worth it!
March 2011 Update
Happy to check in at my goal weight with a few more goal inches to go. Having reached one of my over-arching goals I have learned that it is not the end of the journey by any means... in some ways just the beginning, and that is what the meaningful life is about. Building blocks from one step to the next endlessly improving upon yourself and coping with setbacks along the way. Over the last year plus of CrossFit and SparkPeople these are the lessons I can confidently say I've learned and can practice with an awesome crew of friends and family behind me to make sure I continue to move forward... there is not much more than "awesome" I can say about that.
October 2010 Update:
Over the last ten months I have been able to successfully lose nearly 60lbs with only 10 (at the most!) left to go. It is extremely exciting and gratifying to make and see these changes. Now I am on the "learning how to maintain" train. I don't ever want to go back. I began this with the sole motivation to look better, it never occurred to me that if I took care of myself properly and learned my limits/self control I would feel better, physically and mentally. I would actually have more energy and contentment than I have ever felt. It has been as much about learning my body and the science involved to be healthy as it is about losing weight and looking good. With these tools and the awesome support I get from various outlets I don't see myself ever backsliding.
It has been a back and forth struggle to lose weight because I have always thought that as soon as I saw progress I could relax and then I would fall into my old ways again. For some reason I feel this time is different, that I am training my body to crave good food and exercise. The Spark book has helped me see that my health isn't just one aspect of my life but my goal of good health ties into my overall life goals. The more time, thought, and care that I invest in myself the more my other goals seem like reality and not just pipe dreams.
