Making myself a priority in 2014!

Somewhere in the past week or so, I have had an awakening regarding this journey to health and fitness. Maybe the books I've been reading and the support of SP has clicked or something, but I finally realized that if I am going to have success, I have to be accountable for the choices I am making....ALL of the choices. That means no more kidding myself. I've been held in bondage to my fear of how much I truly weigh....like seeing the number on the scale is going to change reality. Avoidance ...
Avoidance of the scale simply allows me the ability to not be accountable for the consequences of my choices. Sure, I can tell when I my pants are getting tight or whatever but that could mean 5 pounds or 20 pounds. I will no longer do that to myself.
Now, before anyone tells me the dangers of scale obsession, let me say that I am not going to become obsessed with the scale as I was when I was a teen and 20 something. I do not get my self-worth from a number on the scale and I will not allow that number to send me into despair. However, I know what it is I want this time around and I am not going to stop until I reach it. Mind you, it is a very reasonable goal for my height and age. I'm not trying to be 120 pounds anymore.....I could never be happy denying myself what I would have to deny myself in order to reach that weight.
But, like it or not, weight is a very reasonable measure for health and while I am pretty fit right now, I am still overweight and not stepping on the scale isn't going to change that fact.
So, here I go...I'm going back to the basics.
Track food and stay in calorie range
Track fitness...increase intensity and duration
Weekly weigh in for accountability

If I truly want to make myself a priority in 2014, I have to begin to be honest with myself.

Thanks so much for commenting on my "Back On Track" blog. Have a great day!

PS: Good luck on your journey! I last weighed myself over a month ago, and I probably won't weigh myself again for a very VERY long time. I've only weighed myself 4 times since 2012. I prefer to gauge my success by NSV's such as how my clothes feel and how much stamina I have during workouts. When I get on the scale, I tend to obsess over the numbers and I'd rather not do that.

"You are capable and worthy of being and doing anything.
You just need the discipline and determination to see it through.
It won't come instantly, and you may backslide from time to time, but don't let that deter you.
Never give up. Life is an ever-changing process, and nothing is final.
Therefore, each moment and every new day is a chance to begin anew."
