Curiouser and Curiouser
"Curiouser and curiouser" is a quote from Alice in Wonderland. Alice says it as she's out exploring Wonderland. That has been my life since starting SparkPeople. Curiouser and curiouser. More interesting. More alive. More colorful. More of a Wonderland full of wonderful things. Alice does also at some point mention that "curiosity often leads to trouble." I suppose this is true. But the benefits of exploration and living this adventure and finding out what happens when I press that ...
But the benefits of exploration and living this adventure and finding out what happens when I press that button over there (and fall down that rabbit hole) are infinitely greater. *** On February 28, 2006 I quit smoking. I got around to trying out running about seven months later. At this point I was about 40 pounds overweight, borderline obese. By using all the great tools on Sparkpeople, I have turned my life around. I have maintained my 40 pound weight loss for over 2+ years. In August of 2008 I ran a full marathon. I paid of all my credit cards in November of 2008. In May of 2009 I finally got my master's degree. In August of 2009 I ran a half-marathon in under 2 hours. In September of 2009 I went to the SparkPeople Convention in Cincinatti. It was amazing! On February 28, 2010 I ran the Mardi Gras Half Marathon in New Orleans with a bunch of other SparkPeople. It seems like an incredibly appropriate way for me to celebrate 4 years of being smoke-free. In the summer of 2010, I ran the Equinox Marathon, a trail marathon up here in Fairbanks. It was amazing. And then in March of 2011 I got sick. I got very sick. I was supposed to run the Little Rock Half Marathon, but instead ended up in a Walmart Clinic trying to get medical help. And that was the beginning of the saga. Finally, after six months of false leads, and good doctors and bad doctors and hero doctors, I have a diagnosis of adult onset Still's, a chronic rare disease that gives a person rheumatoid arthritis, among other crazy symptoms. Update 2/19/12: Now I need to figure out how to run with RA. I hope it can be done. I haven't run regularly in a year now and I'm really starting to get a lttle despodent. NONE of these accomplishments are done on my own. I have the support of my family, my friends, and the amazing communities that I found at quitnet and SparkPeople. You CAN do this.

My Goals:
To learn how to manage Adult Onset Still's Disease, a rare, chronic auto-immune disorder that I was diagnosed with in August 2011. To learn how to manage it so I can keep on running!
My Program:
"The more I run, the more I want to run, and the more I live a life conditioned and influenced and fashioned by my running. And the more I run, the more certain I am that I am heading for my real goal: to become the person I am." --George Sheehan, M.D.
