OK, back to SparkPeople again! Lose, gain, lose, gain, .... y'all know the story.
But this time after gaining my weight back and waiting for the inspiration/desire to start losing again, I found myself with Thyroid Cancer. Damn.
So, the docs have removed the thyroid and a bunch of diseased lymph nodes and now I'm having to lose weight with just the thyroid meds to help me. Not looking forward to the slooooooow progress that will mean, but I guess I gotta do it.
Anyway, in a few weeks I'll be going in for RAI (Radioactive Iodine) treatments, but that means for several weeks leading up to it, I have start clearing my system of thyroid medication ... so looking forward to just not GAINING weight!! I hope!
Anyway, still trying to get fully motivated to lose weight and get back in some sort of shape. Unfortunately, since my surgery, I have had trouble working out at the level I would have expected. And I've been battling a nasty case of plantar fasciitis, but I think I'm getting that one under control. I have never had to fight back from such a 'low' point and I must say it has been discouraging. But on the other hand, if I don't start now, it's just going to get more discouraging later, right? RIGHT!
Oh, because I've had some folks ask, I have metastatic papillary thyroid cancer. I had a total thyroidectomy and a left neck dissection. Stage IVa (but that sounds scarier than it probably is as I have about a 89% chance of living at least another 10 or 20 years.) No recurrences allowed!
Reset my sweet tooth, and probably my salt-tooth.
Get used to eating many more greens in my diet.
Run a 5K
Get through cancer treatments.
Eat good, real food.
Stop eating when I'm no longer hungry.
Work on running a 5K.

Thanks for your encouraging comment on my completing a 5 KM. I´m now trying to train for a 10 KM in Feb. It keeps me motivated to walk daily.

Getting up at 4:30 gets easier with time. I used to be a night owl. If I had my choice my perfect schedule would be to sleep from midnight to 8 AM. When on vacation I gravitate toward that. I used to prefer 2 AM to 10 AM. Years ago I had to be into work at 6:30 and that got me into early mode. Then I discovered that the only way I work out consistently is by going first thing in the morning.
