My name is Uzo and I am a 31 year old accounting assistant, originally from Nigeria, West Africa and now living in Washington DC. I have been overweight my whole life, it never really bothered me because I have never really been overly conscious of how I look and because I never felt that my weight held me back in any way, I didn't see the need to watch the number on the scale.

In January of this year, I fractured my foot and I could not use my crutches properly because I was too heavy. In April, I finally "womaned" up and weighed myself; I was 353lbs and I was disgusted at what my nonchalant attitude had led to. I was a morbidly obese 30 year old whose idea of exercise was walking from the couch to the fridge. I decided enough was enough and I decided it was time to lose the weight and keep it off once and for all.

For the past eight months I have been diligently staying on track with my weight loss and checking in on sparkpeople, but I had not really opened up about my journey so here I am, pictures and all. The picture part is really important because I never take pictures and when I do no one ever sees them. I figured pictures would be the easiest and most open way to check myself just in case I start to veer off track.

I turn 31 on Monday 12/9/2013 and I have given myself the best gift ever; a new lease on life and I want to make sure I never run out of gas while I am at it.
