Bound and Determined to Lose 120 pounds

I'm 36 years old and I want to get some or all the weight before any severe health problems set in.

I live at home with my dad who had a quadupal bypass surgery and a bypass done on an aneurysm who made it out fine on January 8, 2009. First time he's had open heart surgery since October 24, 1996 and November 9, 1996. He's doing fine as of the day he had his surgery but not sure on how he is afterwards.

My mom passed away October 14, 2006 at the age of 55. She suffered 2 strokes and the first one at age 40 in 1991. I jsut don't want to end up like her. Over weight and a lot of health problems and I don't want the health problems like my dad does either.

I live in a small town in Illinois called Avon. If any of you want to know where that is, we're an hour west of Peoria or between 3 to 4 hours south of Chicago. We're about half way between Peoria and the Mississippi River. We only have about 900 people in our town (more or less).

Thank you for your comments on my blog. Keep up the good work. I also went through a patch of depression and know how exercise indeed has a very high impact on how you feel. It is the initial step that is the biggest struggle. You will do great!

Thanks for commenting on my 8 Miles Tomorrow blog. You look like you are doing well losing. Good for you. I did start with walking and then walk to run program and started walk to run when I was about 180-185. I have some respiratory issues too and use an inhaler twice a day and my rescue inhaler before I run. Good luck to you!

In the Top Stories today, there's a blog about dealing with depression. Please read it, because it's very informative. I care about you, and I don't want to see you dealing with the same misery that I have lived through. I'm still seeing a therapist, I take medication, and I'm 66 years old. Don't be like me. Take care of yourself now. Only recently, do I feel that I've finally turned a corner, and it's been through exercise. I highly recommend it.

If you're feeling down and you need to "talk", I'm here for you.

Leslie

You don't necessarily need medication or need to see a doctor, but, trust me, talking to someone about your issues is going to make you feel a lot better. Start with the pastor of your church. He or she is supposed to tend to the flock. Your pastor might also be a good resource to help you get low cost or free help. Heck that's why I'm paying all the taxes that I do.

From what I've read in your blogs, you are extremely isolated, and that has got to be contributing to your depression. You must get out more and have a life beyond caring for your father. Even if you volenteer for a couple of hours a week, it will make you feel good to give to others who need you. You've got a computer, so start doing Google searches. Please do something good for yourself. You won't regret it.
