My Dearest Self,

Hold tight, self!

It's been a year since you've hurt your back; a year since you last posted a letter to yourself. Your back is healed, praise God!

You are picking your way carefully through a high risk pregnancy. This year has been an emotional roller-coaster: two earth-shattering losses early in the year; keeping careful watch on this precious life growing in your womb; helping your son celebrate one year of life and watching him grow, grow, grow!; strengthening your marriage in a painful, growing-pains fashion; watching your Mom adapt to a new life, feeling helpless at her pain... all this in the first six months!!

So what do the next six months hold? Only the Lord knows, but I'm so excited to find out.

You're involved in the Challenge of Harry Potter again, though you aren't yet entirely sure what you're diving into. Many thanks to Annie Gryffindor who asked students to log in... and somehow sucked you back to SparkPeople.

You're taking your blood sugar at least six times a day and injecting yourself with insulin four times a day. You're dealing with your second major, life-changing illness in your lifetime, but this time your life isn't falling apart. No, it's growing stronger! The sugar addiction you've fought your entire grown life is not an issue anymore. Once your blood sugars straightened up like soldiers at the insulin's command, your sugar addiction turned tail in a horrible defeat!

Here are your goals for June:
0. Plan, eat, and track your carbs as planned; take your blood sugar readings on schedule; and take your insulin as prescribed.

1. Try out just one week of classes in TCoHP. June 8th through 14th: Arithmancy (tracking carbs) and Charms, History of Magic, or Divination (the blogging challenges). One week of classes is small commitment, and you can see if logging back in daily is going to be too much.

2. Keep up with your summer goals list. This includes ten weekly goals (with no expectation of getting 100% at this point). Two parenting goals; two marriage goals; two goals involving friends and neighbors; two goals involving the home; and two personal goals.

That's it, self. Enjoy your June. By the end of the month you'll be in your third trimester! Woo-hoo!

My Goals:
Current Short Term Goal #1:

Finish out the Spring Term with the CoHP.

Plan: Pick classes I can complete as often as possible. Ask for alterations or make up work when available.

Current Short Term Goal #2:

Complete this pregnancy without giving up my progress with my blood sugars.

Plan: Plan my carbs according to my outline, take blood sugar readings and insulin when planned.

Current Medium Term Goal #1:

Get to ONEderland by ???

Plan: Figure out how long this will take based on post-pregnancy weight.


My Program:
Goals: Work towards short, medium, and long term goals.

Nutrition: Talk with my diabetic nurse about how to control carbs after pregnancy before I am tested for Type 2 (a few months after birth.)

Fitness: Work up to 10 minutes daily during pregnancy.

Community: Become active in TCoHP for now, at least. Continue with doctor's appointments that act as an accountability community of sorts.



Personal Information:
I live in the beautiful East End of Louisville, Kentucky. I have been married to the man of my dreams since September 1st, 2007. We have a little boy, born in January 2012, and are expecting our second baby in September of 2013.

I love to craft, though I am slow stitcher (cross-stitch and embroidery) and rarely find the time for other projects.

I am a voracious reader, and every year my tastes grow vaster. In 2013 I fell in love with podcasts. Some favorites: Stuff You Missed in History Class, Radiolab, and This American Life


Other Information:
I have had gestational diabetes with both of my pregnancies. My second pregnancy (due Sept. 2013) has been high risk from the beginning, and I am now on insulin to control my blood sugars. My chance of getting Type 2 Diabetes is rather high, but I am determined to continue to control my health to the best of my ability.
