Ride the Spiral...

Over 50 lbs down, 10 to go! I'm Dani, I hail from South Florida but I've been slaving away at FSU for several years now.

In May 2008 I weighed 209 lbs. Since I was 8 yrs old I had struggled with my weight, but as I had entered college and started really stress eating, it skyrocketed out of control. I was at risk for diabetes, clinically obese, and couldn't try on clothes in a store without crying in a fitting room.

I've lost over 50 lbs since then, and changed everything about my lifestyle. Most importantly, I've changed my self perception. I have come to terms with the fact that I will never be super thin, or have six pack abs, but I can still be HOT and healthy.

I love being held accountable, so feel free to add me for mutual support! :)

Update 12/17/12: Trying to find that sweet spot where I can be healthy, strive to lose weight, but still truly be accepting and loving of my current physical shape. It's been a long rough journey, but hey, it's amazing what we can do when we put our minds to it, right?

Update 2/27/13: Instead of eating super processed foods that are cleverly labeled "diet" and "lite", I am now attempting to cook real food from scratch as much as possible, and instead of doing things like eating an entire box of "low-fat-tastes-like" cookies when I want to splurge, I will go for one absolutely delicious, baked from scratch cookie.

This is working out fairly well with my new mentality of "try to be healthy, not skinny"...I've been slowly teaching myself that calories consumed (and weight) are not the only indicators of health. Instead of hammering it into my head that "I just need to lose more weight", it's time to think "I just need to be healthier". This mindset has led to me eating fresh vegetables daily for the first time EVER, and I'm feeling better as well.

If I end up losing weight this way and make my goal weight, great, but if I stay the same weight but have fabulous health and strength, that's great too :)

Just wanted to say that your sparkpage is a real inspiration to me, because I think our situations are pretty similar! I've just finished my degree and stress-eating caused me to put on a lot of weight. Seeing your progress is a real motivator!

(And are those pole fitness bruises I see? I'm intimately familiar with those, too!)

Congratulations on your amazing progress, and I hope you manage to keep it up :)

You are so inspiring! I would love to start eating clean, however, I am in college and really can't afford to buy fresh fruits and veggies all month long. Do you have any suggestions?
