Spring 5% challenge

It's been a long, cold, snowy winter & I have some hibernation weight to lose! I've been in challenges before with some success. Although my weight has been pretty steady for about 2-3 years, it's not where I want to be.
I just bought a fitbit zip. It will be a good tool for keeping me moving on my work days.

Thanks for your comment on my blog. I need to do some deep thinking about my food anxiety issues and hopefully overcome them! How is your Challenge coming along?

Good guys ARE the best! emoticon

I admit to not remembering the Froman scene from the movie either. :)

Glad you are making your way through the articles, too. Let me know what you think! I thought a lot about my mom with her newly-diagnosed type 2 diabetes when I was reading the obesity article. She has lost 26 pounds very quickly by seriously cutting her carbs -- and overall calories. (She has *always* said that carbs were what made her fat.) I also like that my brain gets challenged when there are convincing articles against conventional wisdom.

Hope all is well in your world!!

Your comment made me laugh! I don't think that the workout was -that- hard and that is why people left. I think some had other things to do or just didn't want to do it anymore. I wanted to leave, too -- because seriously, what is the point?

I've been thinking about your food rules post since I first read it. I might have more food rules than I initially thought. Or they aren't rules but suggestions that I try to stick to. Did you name your post thinking of Michael Pollan's book of the same name? His "don't eat anything with more than 5 ingredients on the label" is something I pay attention to. If you haven't read it already, that book could give you ideas on which food rules you want to adopt!

Happy Monday!

re the alternate fast day diet thing - the "actual" diet has you eating 600 calories twice a week. I can't go that low. I aim for 1000 (that's about 300 per meal with enough for a small snack). I don't always do it twice a week either (mostly because I forget but sometimes because hubby's schedule is weird sometimes). The other days I eat 1200, sometimes 1400, and the odd time (like once or twice a month) 1600 cal.
Something about keeping your metabolism guessing is supposed to help with weight loss.

I can't say for sure that it's helping because at the same time I started it I also got rid of much of the heavy carbs (breads, pasta etc).

So somehow between the two I'm losing weight. I ate spaghetti the other night and now I'm up a pound and a half. Won't be doing that again any time soon!
