I began using Sparkpeople in 2009. I had lost weight successfully with Weight Watchers, but was tired of that program and felt like I needed more tools.

I've come back here a few times and am hoping this new start as of November 2015 will be the one that takes me to where I'd like to be: comfortable with myself and my weight, liking myself, and healthy.

For many years, I've struggled with emotional eating as well as depression, where I lost a significant amount of weight. I have had several years of grief and loss in my life and am in the process of recovering from the toll that several critical events have taken on me, including a traumatic brain injury. I'm pleased that this place has so many resources and positivity! Thanks for stopping by.

My Goals:
Participate in Fall 2016 5% challenge.

Be successful at HEALTHY weight loss that is sustainable as a healthy lifestyle and healthy habits while not feeling deprived

Obtain a healthy weight and BMI

Track food and fitness

Read/comment on Sparkfriends or other members pages/blogs 3x/week

Work towards balance in all areas of my life


My Program:
2016 Fall 5% Challenge:

-Exercise 4-6 times per week, 30-45 minutes per day. Walk, elliptical, yoga.
- Strength training: 2x per week.
- Stretching: every day after aerobic exercise.

- yoga 1+ times per week

- meditate 3x per week

- minimize sugar and alcohol (once/week for alcohol, one daily treat)
- Work through the Beck Diet Solution book. (began June 2016).
- Understand connection between feelings, needs and emotions,and food.

Personal Information:
Born in Kansas. Grew up in the SF Bay Area. Living in the Sacramento, CA area which I love. Married with two mischievous yet loving kitties. Worked in public service for 26 years and proud of it. Recently retired and working on taking care of myself and finding out who I am after being work-focused for much of my life.

Other Information:
I love to run but am currently recovering from a stress fracture (as of March 2016). I hope to be able to run again, but currently am walking and doing other types of activity.Other things I like: being outside, the ocean, the mountains, animals, especially our two kitties, reading, watching movies and TV series, spending time with my good friends.

    Injury changes the whole picture, doesn't it? I really want to get that full on the books, as I may never do it a second time... so, deep breath, and week 2 of the 30 week training plan begins!

    It's a case of daily evaluation, for all of us: what does our body need? Any stated goal is subject to revision if the body says it needs something. Wellness comes first! And marathon training can beat a body up... still, I really want that 1% membership!
