Return of the Skinny Squid

For years my wife, SparklySpice, and I have limited our activities because of the way we look and the way it made us feel about ourselves. We were both skinny kids growing up and ever since our precipitous weight gain over the past few years we have both become a lot more anti-social. For years my wife, SparklySpice, and I have limited our activities because of the way we look and the way it made us feel about ourselves. We were both skinny kids growing up and ever since our precipitous weight gain over the past few years we have both become a lot more anti-social. As our weight went up, our self-esteem went down and we started going out less and less (and gaining more and more!!) But times they are a changin'. I am really tired of not doing things because of my self-consciousness. I've been gradually losing weight since my high of 255 in early 2008. Its been a bit of a rollercoaster, but I've already noticed changes in my demeanor and confidence.

My goal now, as I start to get back to a healthy weight, is to transition from dieting and working out to living a healthy, active lifestyle. It’s the only way that I can guarantee that I won't slide back into my unhealthy ways.

My Goals:
I really want to fit into some clothes I've been hanging onto for when I "get skinny" and I'd like to look and feel good.

210 by my 30th Birthday (Aug 2)

Get under 200lbs

Do a triathlon

Run a 5K under 30min





My Program:
I'm doing some weight training with my wife now and want to move into triathlon training once towards the end of the summer. I'm going to be lifting 3x/wk and doing cardio 2x/wk. We're also going to try and go on weekly hikes to help us transition to a more active oriented life since our daughter is getting to where she see's what we do and will soon be emulating it.

Fit Buckeye Fans just added a "walk to NCAA, Milwaukee, WI challenge. " Please long in your daily miles as as have a short time to get there. Walking, running, bike, swim, rowing, etc. any miles count. Add yours and deduct the distance. Thanks for any help you can give your team. emoticon

Thanks for the blog comment. That has been my biggest struggle, too. I had always wanted to be better and imagined myself doing what I needed to do, but it was almost like being healthy was taunting me, and I think that made it emotionally draining, so I would be more willing to throw my hands in the air and give up. We just have to keep going emoticon
