Welcome to my Spark page. I am 64 years old and a retired speciaI education teacher (non categorical preschool). My husband and I have a 4 year old rescue beagle named Buster. He is a bundle of energy and makes us laugh. He has eerily similar traits that we saw in our last 2 rescue beagles. He's very sweet and lots of fun for us. Our daughter, husband and her 3 children (my adorable grandchildren) live about 25 minutes from us. They also have an old rescue beagle. I am so fortunate to see them a lot. They are my sunshine!! Our son is married to a great woman. They have his rescue beagle (see a pattern in our family?) and her two cats. They live about 25 minutes from us also (in the opposite direction!) I joined Spark in December 2009 and, like everyone, life has thrown me some curves as well as blessed me in many ways! Although I struggle with consistency, my main struggle seems to always be with exercise. It seems I do fine for awhile and then I get off track. I always go back to the basics but it does get discouraging. I'm trying to focus on being a healthy me with the energy to have fun with my family!
-be aware of my diet and portion control -maintain a consistent exercise routine (walking, yoga, ST) -drink at least 3 glasses of water a day -blog weekly
-be aware of nutrition and portion control -track my fitness every day -track my fruits/veggies -track my water intake
I've been married to my wonderful husband for 42 years. We have 2 grown children. Our daughter is married with 3 children. I feel so blessed to have them close and spend lots of time with them. Our son and his wife are recently married and right now live about 10 minutes from us.I taught preschool special education for 23 years and retired about 5 years ago. Loving retirement and am always busy!
I love to read!!! I belong to PaperbackSwap and love having access to so many books. We are moving our pontoon to Smith Mountain Lake and hope to spend some weekends and at least one week each summer down there. We are able to spend lots of time with our kids and grandkids. I love spending time with my family!
Hello Beth….what happy news!!! Your granddaughter is here and you all must be so happy!!! I love her name!! She is a big baby…..no wonder she came C section. Glad to hear that everyone is good! Sending much love and happiness to all of you!!!
LOL. Yes, the devils. I'm not sure why women choose to actually live with men. LOL.
Actually I prefer the golf channel over some of the goofy stuff Benny watches. I majored in Science and he is very scientific minded but wants to watch shows about crap like aliens. I can't keep quiet and have to say something and he will tell me that the people on the show are scientists and I will respond by saying that they must be on crack then or are Scientologists. The show is intertwined with the Bible and is so twisted and warped. And so unbelievably boring. You can image - Jesus driving a spaceship.
Maybe there is hope for Benny on the torture front. I hope he tires if it.
Benny's taste in "restaurants" is as bad as it gets. Burger King is his favorite. McDonalds when he is feeling cheap. Wendy's and Hardees for a break. For really special occasions - Backyard Burgers, Culvers, KFC or LJS. If I say something about wanting to eat somewhere nice for my birthday you can see his mental calculator come on. And by nice we are not talking 5 star restaurants. I mean Golden Corral or Red Lobster. He would die of a heart attack when he saw the prices at a really nice place. And then I'm reminded of when I was younger and single and my GFs would look at me and say, "This guy is offering you a new Lincoln Continental to be his girlfriend and you are turning him down!!!! I, instead, chose Mr. Cheap.
Benny is younger than me but I have already started planning for his retirement. Benny's mom told me that his father was immediately bored upon retirement and decided he wanted to rearrange the kitchen cabinets to suit him better. I told Benny at that time that if he intended to do something like that then it meant he was assuming all kitchen duties. He has stated he can live with them the way they are. You have to prepare them ahead of time for retirement. Let him know before hand that it doesn't mean the toilet lid stays permanently up, that he is in charge of scheduling your day, that you are available as a 24/7 short order cook, etc. Lay day the rules - stay out of my hair, don't be in my face continuously, entertain yourself.
Thanks for the bloglove on my Weekly Menu post. Son polished off all the leftovers last night - YAY - so my crock pot is ready to be washed and loaded with a new recipe. My scale is really really being nice to me this morning!
