My weight loss journey

It's time to be healthy and to have more energy, and to be kind to my knees. I'm 56 years old and I've been skinny most of my life--until I hit the 40's, then it all piled on. Spark People is so motivating to me! Now I'm working out daily, lifting weights, doing exercise DVDs, and logging my meals. I feel so much better living this way.

My Goals:
I want to feel better, and have more energy for enjoying my grandchildren. I need to lost about 90 lbs.

For the month of July:
1. I'm on a SP bike challenge to ride 200 miles in July
2. I'm on a SP walking challenge to walk 45 miles in July
3. Continue working on upper body strength
4. Continue sit-ups.
5. Continue other strength dvd's--finish Jillian Michaels' 30 DS
6. Continue elliptical
7. Start swimming
8. Eat within my calorie range at least 28 days out of 31

For the month of June:
1. bike 150 miles DONE--Actually did over 200 miles 6/30
2. walk 30 miles --almost done--bad knee month, and only walked 19 miles 6/30
3. elliptical trainer--improve from 30 minutes to 60 minutes
DONE 6/30
4. Complete Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred
PARTLY DONE--did Level 1 10 times
5. Be able to do 100 girls push-ups (now at 42 in a row) STILL TRYING
6. Be able to do 100 sit-ups every day without stopping <

My Program:
Cardio and strength every day. I don't plan out my "rest" days, but there are always a few days each month where I'm either too busy or too tired, and so those become my rest days.

Cardio:
can walk up to 3.5 miles on a "good" knees day

bike up to 13 miles at a stretch DONE--up to 22 miles as of July 1

elliptical trainer

want to start swimming again

Strength:
do situps and pushups every day.

Have some workout dvd's that I alternate among: Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred, The Biggest Loser Yoga Workout, Turbo Jam

Other Information:
My husband and I have two children and three grandchildren. I love to play piano (I play for our church), scrapbook, and read. Lately I've started enjoying less sedentary things like riding bikes and walking with friends. My favorite show is The Biggest Loser.

Hey Sweetpea!!! Thank you for your comments on my blog about heart health. One of the important lessons I learned from Dan's life and subsequent death is that it is important to know your health risk factors. Also, it is important to live my life with a passion and fullness. Dan died doing what he loved, he was a runner, he wasn't sitting around feeling sorry for himself because of his high cholesterol. His family feels blessed that he was on a high, loving life and otherwise healthy on the day that he died. Live a passionate, healthy life.

Hi Beth!

I'm so glad to hear that your doing good with the 8 wk. challenge. Its great that you got 20 mins. in of exercise each day.
I'm doing really good too. So far met each goal for each day.
I ordered the Bodybugg that the BL's wear. I should get it in about a week. I can't wait because this will tell me what I'm doing wrong and doing right! It will also tell me how much I should be eating, how much I need to exercise etc.! I made up my mind to do as much as I can to see these pounds go and this will help. I don't belong to a gym, and I don't really treat myself to many things so this is going to be a early Birthday gift. My Hubby said to go ahead and order it. He knows and see's how hard I'm trying and I'm not seeing any results. Something is wrong and I don't know how to fix it. So hopefully this will be my answer! Already had blood test's done so I know I'm in good health and nothing is causes me not to lose wt. So this is just the next step. It's costly but so is a gym and I will have this for ever! Kind of like the HR monitor!
Keep going strong.
Thanks for writing to me.
Hugs, Laura.

Stopping by to see if you were doing any cycling? Don't know if you are in the Lubbock area or not. We're snowed in, but I'm about to hop on my husband's spinner and get busy. Did I tell you he signed me up for the Hotter N Hell this summer?? No where near ready for that. lol. Have a great Frisky Friday emoticon
