50 pounds lost - i'm almost there.
within a little over a year i got from heavy to healthy. my feet used to hurt when i walked for more than a mile, and i got winded climbing up to my 3rd floor flat. not any more. i lost 50 pounds, and today i can swim 2 miles, walk 10, bike 30. and it didn't cost me a dime. i didn't need a personal trainer or a nutritionist. all i did was, i came here, tracked what i ate, stayed within my calorie range (well, on most days) and stuck to some regular exercise, creating a ...
within a little over a year i got from heavy to healthy. my feet used to hurt when i walked for more than a mile, and i got winded climbing up to my 3rd floor flat. not any more. i lost 50 pounds, and today i can swim 2 miles, walk 10, bike 30. and it didn't cost me a dime. i didn't need a personal trainer or a nutritionist. all i did was, i came here, tracked what i ate, stayed within my calorie range (well, on most days) and stuck to some regular exercise, creating a 3500 calorie deficit per week. that's just 500 a day. that second helping of spaghetti - no thanks. sweetened ice tea? water is much more refreshing. a brisk walk every other day - i need the sun anyway. swimming - how did i forget my favorite exercise? when i'm in the water i feel even lighter, almost weightless, defying the laws of gravity. that's my journey. and it wasn't all that hard, today i'm wondering why i had been yo-yoing for so long. my spark friends made it easy for me to stick to it, encouraging me when i was in a rut, cheering me on when i was disheartened. i encourage everyone to immerse in this wonderful community, today it means just as much to me as my improved fitness and my new waistline. i have a home here.

My Goals:
i started at 201 and intend to end up at 146 pounds, bringing my bmi back into the normal range. i used to be obese, with a bmi of 33.5. update 10/02/2007: gone 1/4 of the way! now i'm 186.5 lbs, bmi is down to 31.1 update 12/24/2007 gone 1/2 the way! now down to 173 lbs, bmi is 28.8 update 06/06/2008 gone 3/4 of the way! down to 159.5 today, bmi is 26.5 update 10/25/2008 healthy bmi range! down to 149 today, bmi is 24.8
My Program:
i try to stay with my recommended calorie range, without actually going on a diet. i love veggies and fruit, seafood and lean poultry, i just have to cut down on the extra fat and sweets i occasionally crave for. my calorie range has gone up a little now that i am doing more cardio than in the beginning and with all the added fiber sometimes i even have a hard time getting enough calories without grabbing something sweet.
