Taking Care Of My Body and Health

I am a 60 year old married and a Christian. I have been with Sparkpeople since November of 2011. I started to live healthy in October of 2011. I am not sure how much I really weighed at the time. My scales didn't go above 300 pounds. I had been on a healthy way of eating for about three weeks, before I went for a check up. I weighed in at the doctors office at 336 pounds. So I am guessing I had lost at least 10 pound give or take before that.

First, I want to thank the LORD for all the strength HE has given me to live a healthy life style.

I want to share things I have over come:

1. Being homebound for years.
2. Having to use a wheelchair if I went anywhere.
3. Multiple serious health problems, that are now under control.
4. I was taking many medications. That has downsized.
5. Not being able to walk over 20 feet or stand more than a few seconds.
6. Poor self-image and poor self-esteem.
7. Stress and anger.
8. Not fitting into restaurant booths or cinema seats.
9. Not being able to tie my own shoes.
10. Having to have help dressing and bathing.
11. Isolation.
12. Ugly remarks, rude stares, & lack of care from doctors.
13. Multiple surgeries.
14. Not being able to go outside and work in the yard.
15. Due to my weight and health, I lost friends. They disappeared.

The list could go on and on, but I will stop.
I will say that with GOD love and help, I had the strength to overcome these things. HE guided my path to where I am today.

I weighed in at the doctor at 229 pounds today October 2, 2013. This makes a total loss of 107 pounds as of today. I had lost a little more than that last year. I had lost down to 218 pounds. I had a bad backset with 5 back surgeries in two months time. The second surgery I got an infection and stayed in the hospital for weeks. I had to eat to feed the infection. The infection was eating up my oxygen and my nutrition. I had to eat such a high calorie diet, that I began to gain weight. I gained a total of 29 pounds back. It took me until early summer to get back on track. I started losing again. In July I lost my beloved sister, my best friend to an aneurysm. She died just a few days after finding out her cancer had returned. So I have been struggling with emotions. I am a fighter. I am standing back on my feet again with the LORD's help. I love the LORD. I love my husband. I love my Christian Family. I love my Spark Family. There are so many that have become dear friends and great encouragers. I love the food tracker that has been my biggest help as a tool. I am blogging again. This is a powerful tool, plus it puts me in touch with so many great folks out there. I love my teams and the challenges they offer. I love that my husband has been a wonderful support, joining me in healthy living. We are practicing for a 5k with Habitat for Humanity on October 19, 2013. Six days after we plan to do the Spark People 5k. We are doing the 5k's in honor of my sister. She was one of my best cheerleaders, as I worked on my health and weight loss. I feel healthier, happier, and blessed.

My Goals:
Continue Each Day with care of my body, mind and spiritual health.

Eat Healthy but make it tasty.

Use my Nutritional Tracker Daily

Consume Daily
Calorie 1200-1400
Carbs 150-160 grams
Fats 40-47 grams
Proteins 60-70 grams

Drink at least 12 cups of water

Eat out only occasionally and plan what I will order ahead of time.

Portion out everything so I can have a treat now and then.

Take water and an emergency snack with me when I go out anywhere. I want to prevent temptation, because I let myself go without eating.

Be more aggressive in my efforts to balance my food, exercise, and sleep.

Making sure hubbie and I live the healthiest we can.

Most of all be thankful to God for His help each day.

My Program:
5% Challenge Exercise Commitment Starts 04/05

What type of exercise will I do?

I want to mix it up to keep it interesting.

I will do cardio (right now mostly walking, I will use SparkPeople Video's as well.
Strength training (I like to mix it up each time)

I will use Sparkpeople videos as well as other internet videos , I will use DVD's . I will do therapy type exercises using my own body weigh. When I am having a bad day with back and knee pain I do bed exercises.

I do have some limitations, but I try to modify exercises to get a similar affect without harming myself.

How many minutes and how often will I exercise?

I want to do at least 30+ minutes. Exercising at least 4 times a week.


Personal Information:
I am a Christian. I love the LORD JESUS CHRIST!
I am from the south. I have a wonderful husband of 43 years. I have a sweet dog named Chaos. He is very smart and very spoiled. I love spending time with my best friend (My Husband).
I like to read. The Bible mostly.
I like to watch a good movie from time to time.
I like to knit and crochet. Anything crafty is up my ally.
I love painting with oils and watercolor.
I love gardening and working in the yard.

Thank You for the Spark Easter Basket Goodie. I Love It and Appreciate It Very Much. It Meant So Much To Me. Please see My Happy Easter Blog on my page. I belong to a Team called Hopeful Hearts Breaking Free From Hurts. It is a Faith God Believing Team that offers all the support and Prayers for their Members. I hope that you become a Member too. They will be a Great Help to You in All Areas of Your Life. I Feel The Love Of God Through The Team. I have bee posting on the Roll Call since a week age Friday when I had My 5th Heart Attack. No I didn't go to the hospital. I needed all of the sleep and rest I could get. Not being poke and kept awake most of the time like they do. Couldn't handle it. My doctor assistant was out Monday and Thursday this week. She said I had a heart Attack on Friday. On Monday my Heart Beat was 43 Beats Per Minute. I'm very tired and exhausted all the time. At times I sleep 10 to 14 hours a day. She mentioned Hospice Care to me twice on Monday and I said No. Also I ask me if I wanted a Pace Maker. On Thursday my Heart Beat Per Minute was 60. BP was 142/70 sitting. Standing it was 90/70. A big drop. She added two new medications and adjusted some of the others in the two visits. She will be out again on Thursday this coming week. Sorry to hear that you are in pain and very tired today. Try to get plenty of rest and sleep if you can. Hope you had a very Wonderful Happy Easter and Resurrection Day. Our Lord Has Risen. Wow, Hi dear friend! It was so nice to hear from you!!! I can't believe that you haven't forgotten me by now. I've been MIA for so very long. It seems I just can't muster up the energy I need to keep up with my health and everything else also. I've been working hard to exercise & feel better but it seems one thing has just led to another & whammo I'm a mess. God does get me through each day somehow (although some are better than others). And I'm so thankful for each one.
I hope you are doing well and accomplishing your own goals. I do think of you and pray for you still. I wish you a blessed and happy Easter and that the love of our Savior will fill you to overflowing!
