Healthy & Fit... Finally!

My story is typical; grow up, get to work, gain weight over time, get married, gain more weight, eat out regularly, stress, dislike my body, stress, stress and more stress without healthy release, no exercise and certainly no concept of fueling an efficient body. Any attempt at weight loss failed me and I couldn't seem to crack the code to my body and make it do what I wanted.

It wasn’t until I got extremely sick at 37 and found myself facing exploratory surgery that I started to understand just how horrible my decisions in regards to food, stress, exercise, smoking and even my relationships had been for me and my health.

I will forever be grateful for that 21 day hospital stay because it gave me an awful lot of time to think - really think. I will never be the same for I made a vow I would never ever be weak and powerless again. That was May 2008 and I've never looked back.

My Goals:
Two years ago I met my goal weight and have watched my goal body unfold in front of my eyes. The biggest surprise in reaching my goal weight was how many layers of acceptance I had on it. Part of me just couldn't believe I'd actually done what I'd never been able to do before.

My Program:
My program keeps evolving but essentially I'm leaning toward Paleo. I don't eat dairy and I certainly don't eat grains anymore either. My diet consists of lean proteins, ideally grass-fed, organic vegetables, fruits and nuts. I use Jay Robb's whey protein (I know, dairy.. this might still evolve!) because it's as clean as I can find so far. Processed foods unless they are amazing, just aren't part of my diet anymore. That took so many baby steps to get to, but without meaning to, I got here and I'm proud.

Personal Information:
I live in the beautiful Pacific Northwest near Olympia, Washington.

Other Information:
Ladies.. please please please pick up some weights and add it to your routine. I cannot stress weight bearing exercise enough, especially for us women. Just trust me on this one.. ;)

I just read your story and you are an inspiration! I have been on WW for last three years, up and down same 10 pounds. I just tracked my calories against my points and realized that it is too many cals for me. I love the WW plan, but it is nice to see I am not crazy too! And, to see someone who has reached their goals! Thank you! emoticon emoticon

TRULY AMAZING!! You look fabulous! Your story caught my eye because it sounds just like me (except for the illness) I am still in that "what more can I possibly do" to see some change! I give up and then back to square one.....so this time I told myself I am going to do this (again!!!) What an inspiration you are!
