I'm Savannah, a 23 year old, cat loving, coffee chugging, veggie eating girl just trying to thrive and enable others to do the same. I began my health journey at 260 pounds in August of 2013 when I decided to finally become the hero of my own story. I lost 90 pounds over the next 2 years by making fitness and good nutrition part of my lifestyle. I became a running and hiking enthusiast and felt better than ever before. In November of 2015, I started experiencing symptoms of a mystery illness that gradually progressed until I was forced to take a leave of absence from school, move home with my parents, and switch to an online campus to continue my education. I gained back over 30 pounds and lost a lot of the progress I had made. I went to specialist after specialist, did test after test, and was given several incorrect diagnoses before receiving the tentative diagnosis of Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, a rare genetic disease that causes debilitating joint pain, frequent dislocations, dizziness, nausea, and whole bunch of other unpleasant symptoms. Right now my health journey is sort of at a standstill as I wait for a specialist to confirm my diagnosis and hopefully prescribe me meds that will enable me to live a somewhat normal life again. As discouraged as I am, though, I'm not interested in giving up. I will always do what I can, even if it seems like it won't make a difference. The reasons I have now for wanting to lose weight are quite different from how they were before I got sick. The driving force behind my weight loss efforts is the knowledge that decreasing the weight on my joints should significantly decrease my pain. In addition, building muscle to support my joints will also decrease pain and help me retain mobility. "What we call failure is not the falling down, but the staying down." - Mary Pickford
