5th Anniversary on SparkPeople!

Update 03/04/2014:
Never give up, never give in! Sadly, I have gained weight even though I am trying to lose. So I got the go ahead from my doctor to try vegetarian diet, also taking vitamin B12 supplements. I am also juicing, apples, kale, carrots and other things. We'll see how that goes for a while. I will live out my days to the fullest, praising God!

Update 02/06/2014:
I have good news on my kidney function. The BUN and Creatinine are now in the normal range for the first time in several years. The eGFR is still low, but has come up from 27 to 30. I still have to take pills and some day will get off the pharmaceuticals, but I take less than I used to! It is all good news. I am still working on eating right and I exercise daily, 10 minutes to 45 minutes. Not much weight is gone, but I am praising God for healing!

I am starting a graphic design business, too. You are never too old! I am still creative. Plus I was making jewelry and trying to sell it on Etsy. I gave it a year and none of my creations sold. I had vintage jewelry online too and it sold but not what I made. So I ended my Etsy store and started wearing the jewelry. Well, I sold the first set I was wearing on the spot, and got custom orders. So I am back in the jewelry making business. Plus, dh and I used to sell on ebay and we are going to start again. Life is good.

Update 08/01/2013: the new Nephrologist thinks my kidney function will continue to improve. The labs showed improvement!

I have been reflecting back on the events of my life in the last 5 years.

I lost weight, I gained weight, but overall have lost more than I gained. That is a good thing! I began a new job and had to quit because of the stress and my deteriorating health.

The negative: I have worse health issues now than ever before in my life. I have Sparkfriends who have lost huge amounts of weight, I applaud you! You are truly awesome people!

The positive: I am working on the health issues and I will never give up. I take less prescription medication. I have developed healthy eating habits that I will always follow. My spiritual life is better. My marriage is better. I was nominated as a SparkPeople Motivator, because I have a mostly positive attitude. I've always had a cheerful disposition. I have made some great friends here on Sparkpeople that I hope remain in my life, virtually, forever. You have helped me get by day to day.

What needs work: I am hoping the new kidney doctor will help me more than the previous two. After I feel better, and hopefully that will happen without having to go on dialysis, I plan to step up my exercise. I exercise, but some days I am too exhausted feeling to get much done.

You just do the best you can with what you are handed, and I will continue to do the best I can. If you would like to read my previous introductions, they are below.

January 1, 2013: In 2012 I had some health setbacks, but reflecting back on the year, I have also had success. I have lowered my blood pressure. I was taking 5 different medications for blood pressure and now I am taking only one.
By eating low sodium, combined with lots of veggies and fruit and daily exercise, I have lowered my Blood Pressure, dropped 7 pounds since September (see below) and lowered my A1C to 6.5. If you are diabetic, you will know what that means.
So although I am still overweight, I will concentrate on the success I have had in the past few months.
I plan to continue what I am doing because it is working and I am so happy about that!
Oh and if you read what is below... I did not go back to work!

Today is September 18, 2012.
Well, first let me say that I have been on Spark since June of 2008. I have lost and gained and lost and gained...
Now I am having some difficult health issues and resolved today to save my life.
The first thing I am paying close attention to is my diet. This will be the difficult part. While I am home getting better, cooking healthy is easier. When I go back to work, it will be much more challenging. I plan to cook everything at home and not eat restaurant food at all. I will take my lunch with me to events and restaurants. I plan to tell the restaurants that I am on a strict no-sodium diet and have to eat this way. Low sodium is what I am eating, the DASH diet. I will not follow it to the "t", but I will watch my sodium and eat the correct proportions of protein, carbs, fruit and veg, etc.
The next thing I am working on is to build my stamina and get some weight off. I am ordering a swimsuit and plan to swim three days a week at an indoor pool. Plus I plan to walk every day and I mean every day! I have been doing this about 2 weeks now, the walking, for 15 minutes a day, like the doctor said to do.
So I am trying to save my life, will you join me?

Being around children as often as I am has been a true learning experience. I may not be a young woman, however, I am finding out many things from this beautiful little people.

Life is not boring to me, it is not mundane. It is full of wonder, pleasing smells, awesome colors, beautiful creatures, and breathtaking moments. Children know how to enjoy and appreciate life.

This is what I have learn from children: I think there is a secret to enjoying life more that most people overlook. A hidden way to feel so much more full every single day and it hides in its deceptive simplicity. Itís this: Love every single living thing you find and see them all through wondering eyes. Appreciate the details, notice the colors and textures and imagine you are seeing it for the very first time. See things as new.

What wonderful beauty is all around us.

There is nothing that we can give to the Lord to repay His goodness and mercy but we can give offering of praise to show our gratitude.

I never truly understood how much my mother touched other peoples' lives by the messages she sent them or the cards until she left this world. Everyday she would write someone or send a card. She has been gone for 17 years, yet a month does not go by that some stranger comes up to me and ask me if I am my mother's daughter (I look so much like her). Than I am told what a blessing she was in their life.

Wow, what a beauty legacy she left--the gift of love by helping others wither her kindness and words.

I pray that I can, like her, be a blessing to others. This quote reminds me of my mother: The purpose of human life is to serve, and to show compassion and the will to help others.- Albert Schweitzer
