My Journey: The Sequel
Hi, I'm Laura, a 25 year old working to lose 20 pounds. SparkPeople helped me get from 204 lbs to 165 lbs a few years ago and now I'm back hoping to finally reach my ultimate goal (145). Hi, I'm Laura, a 25 year old working to lose 20 pounds. SparkPeople helped me get from 204 lbs to 165 lbs a few years ago and now I'm back hoping to finally reach my ultimate goal (145). MY STORY: Growing up, I was always a little overweight, maybe about 10 lbs. I played basketball in junior high and high school, but quit my junior year which led to gaining a little weight. Then it was off to college and a full time meal plan at the dining hall. After sophomore year I was shocked to see I weighed 204 lbs. I had known I was gaining weight, but always thought "At least I'm under 200". Once I passed that line, I woke up and realized something needed to be done. I started working out and watching what I ate sticking to 1200 calories. I got to 192 and then got stuck. I ended up meeting with a nutritionist who told me about SparkPeople. She also opened my eyes to the fact that calories aren't the only thing that matter. I was eating mostly processed crap and also not enough to fuel my new long workouts. I started tracking everything on SP and eating a little more and the weight started falling off again. That summer, I got down to 165 lbs. Once I went back to school, I had trouble keeping up my momentum. I didn't gain, but the losing slowed down a lot. I moved to Australia for a semester and gained 7lbs back. Since then, I've gone back and forth a little, always staying between 170 and 175. I got married in August 2010 (at about 168) and after a pretty indulgent honeymoon, I was determined to finally get down to my goal weight of 150. I started the Couch 2 5K program in December 2010 and ran my first race on June 26th, 2011. About a month later, I did my first 10K. In August 2011, I started doing CrossFit and am absolutely loving it! Although I've never been 100% vegetarian, I used to eat pretty close to that. However, after having great success doing a Paleo challenge with my Crossfit box, I've started eating more meat and ditching the grains, dairy, and sugar. It works really well for me...when I can keep my sweet tooth in check, that is ;) SP has been a great motivator for me and I'm always looking for more friends to keep me going!
