The Journey Matters
My husband and I recently had a weekend getaway to Jackson, Wyoming. While looking through cards at the Nature Center's gift shop, I ran across one with a beautiful picture of a misted autumn forest on the front and the text "Listen to the Earth... How softly it speaks in the misty, quiet woods." I was touched first by the picture. Trees are my most favorite things in nature. I feel more at home in a forest than anywhere on earth. And I KNOW that experience of listening to the earth, of hearing the earth speak to my heart in quiet whispers. But more than the picture and the words on the front of the card, the name of the company on the back of the card took my heart hostage: The Journey Matters... I NEEDED that confirmation that my life, my journey matters. That irregardless of whether anyone ever reads what I've written in a blog, I've given voice to the unique pilgrimage that has been mine, recorded my wanderings and my wandering-offs, so to speak, so that I won't forget that there HAVE been places on my path, forks in my journey where I've CHOSEN the right paths for me. Including this one at Spark People. And so I have reset my goals and am recommitting myself to lose a REASONABLE amount of weight by our 40th anniversary in April 2012 when we are going to Hawaii.

My Goals:
I had lost 43 lbs. and was feeling terrific. Having gained some of it back over the course of the last two weddings (I mean years), it's my goal to get back where I was and lose the 20 lbs. I was shy of my goal. I'm not nearly as fit now as I was before I lost the weight, even though I weigh less, so I need to get back to the place where I feel physically more energetic and have more stamina. I've realized over the last two years that sweets are my biggest problem. The meds I'm on for hbp and diabetes sap my energy and so I constantly feel like I need the carbs to pep me up. gotta get THAT under control.
My Program:
I'm staying away from soda and other sweets. This is a bad time of year to do that, but I'm giving it my best shot. I've also gotta get out and take a walk every day. Before the weddings I was walking three miles every morning. Then I just stopped. Not good!
Personal Information:
I'm a devout Tolkien fan! I love to read the classics (Austen, Dickens, etc.), My favorite author is Clive Cussler (adventure novels) followed closely by James Rollins. And I cross stitch a lot. I've had the luxury of trying my hand at many different things. I've been an office manager for RCA, a counselor at a Crisis Pregnancy Center, A kindergarten teacher, managed a small copy shop, and was a church secretary on the side for 22 years. I've raised two great kids (Bran & Stef, both married now and relocated to the east coast) and have been married to my college sweetheart for 35 years. All three of them graduated from college together in May of this year. Yep, even my hubby! I'm tired now. Time to focus on me for a while.
Other Information:
I ADORE anything Celtic!
