Alkalizing cuisine; and clean, green, lean and serene in 2016

“Arise, for this matter is your responsibility. We also are with you. Be of good courage, and do it.” Ezra 10:4

"Imperturbable"
Adjective: marked by extreme calm, impassivity, and steadiness: serene

"Equanimity"
Evenness of mind especially under stress; " . . . nothing could disturb his equanimity"

Stress Mgmt Verse (repeat and meditate while deep breathing):
"In returning and rest you shall be saved; in quietness and confidence shall be your strength." - Isaiah 30:15

"And God said "Love Your Enemy," and I obeyed Him and loved myself." -- Khalil Gibran

Begin Again by:
1. Assess the current situation.
2. Adjust what needs to be done.
3. Admire yourself, in the words of fitness guru Bob Greene, for being strong enough to start again.
4. Act quickly to implement your new course of action.

“In my 20s I was worried about what people thought of me. In my 40s, I didn’t care what people thought of me. In my 50s, I realized that they weren’t thinking of me all along!” -- Anonymous

"What Kelli's going through is not uncommon for ALOT of people who struggle with their weight. They use their weight as an excuse to not go after their dreams. Realizing your dreams are actually possible, brings out a whole NEW set of fears."
-- Chris Powell

"If we're willing to pay the price a new lifestyle demands, we can have the results the new lifestyle offers." -- CarolFaithWalkr

"When we surrender our hopes and dreams to circumstances, the circumstances become our master". - Art E. Berg

My guiding scripture for 2015 comes from Isaiah 43:18-19:
Do not earnestly remember the former things; forget them. Neither consider the things of old. Do not dwell on the past--it is nothing compared to what I am going to do. Behold, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs forth; do you not perceive and know it and will you not give heed to it? I am making a way in the wilderness, streams in the desert, creating rivers in the dry wasteland. Yes, I will make a road in the desert and pathways in the wilderness.

"The FACT is that not moving is GIVING UP your chance to choose. You are literally dooming yourself to a wheelchair. FIGHT! Doctors told me I was not capable of losing weight without surgery. WRONG. Not capable of walking unassisted. WRONG. Would be a wheelchair person, WRONG." -- Beth Donovan

You know how we call those blessed (happy) who were steadfast [who endured]. You have heard of the endurance of Job, and you have seen the Lord's [purpose and how He richly blessed him in the] end, inasmuch as the Lord is full of pity and compassion and tenderness and mercy.
James 5:11 AMP

My new motto:
STRONG & FIRM PROV 31:17! AMP (Spirtually, mentally, physically)

"No one is judging you at the gym. They are all silently cheering you on." -- Coach Nicole

1 Thessalonians 4:4: "Each of you should know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honor."

"I'm on an epic adventure and it takes time, lots of time." -- Beth Donovan

Job 42:10 KJV And the LORD turned the captivity of Job, when he prayed for his friends: also the LORD gave Job twice as much as he had before.

"The brick walls are there for a reason. The brick walls are not there to keep us out. The brick walls are there to give us a chance to show how badly we want something. Because the brick walls are there to stop the people who don't want it badly enough. They're there to stop the other people."
-- Randy Pausch, The Last Lecture

7 WORDS:
Advanced decision making.
Daily faithfulness.
Avoid compromise.

Advanced decision making. (Be proactively prepared, mentally and functionally.)
Daily faithfulness. (It's a Choice. Choose Life. Exercise integrity in the moment of decision.)
Avoid compromise. (Prioritize correctly; put first things first; don't allow life to re-prioritize when you have a choice in the matter.)

Self-discipline is simply remembering what you REALLY want.

"You become what you think about. Be very careful what you spend your days concentrating on." -- Dave Ramsey

"Just remember to always try one more time." -- Beth Donovan

Losing weight will NOT fix your life. Fix the problem, and the weight will take care of itself.

"Forgiveness is the key that unlocks the door of resentment and the handcuffs of hatred. It is a power that breaks the chains of bitterness and the shackles of selfishness." -- Corrie ten Boom

"Forgiveness is an ACT of the WILL & the will can function regardless of the temperature of the heart." -- Corrie ten Boom

"Your love in me is stronger than the hatred." -- Corrie ten Boom

Walking is man's best medicine. -- Hippocrates

"An early morning walk is a blessing for the whole day."
Henry David Thoreau

We all want progress, but if you're on the wrong road, progress means doing an about-turn and walking back to the right road; in that case, the man who turns back soonest is the most progressive. -- C. S. Lewis

PWED. I'm going to be wedded to PWED. Practice Wellness Every Day.

Move Your Feet Before You Eat.

Oscar Wilde once said, "Every little action of the common day makes or unmakes character." He was right. Start small. It turns out the little things are the biggest. -- John Acuff

Pruning precedes growing. Pray first, then plan. -- CarolFaithWalkr

In terms of days and moments lived, you'll never again be as young as you are right now, so spend this day, the youth of your future, in a way that deflects regret. Invest in yourself. Have some fun. Do something important. Love somebody extra. In one sense, you're just a kid, but a kid with enough years on her to know that every day is priceless." -- Victoria Mora

"Broke is fixable. Broke isn't necessarily poor ("poor" is a state of mind, "broke" is not having money), but if you stay broke and don't do something about it, you're on your way to becoming poor; and that's a DANGEROUS place to be." -- Stacy Myers

For we are God's masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.
-- Ephesians 2:10, NLT

Romans 8:37: Yet in all, despite all, and amid ALL THESE DIFFICULTIES (tribulation, trouble, distress, persecution, hunger, famine, nakedness, danger, or a violent martyr's death, in 8:35), WE ARE MORE THAN CONQUERORS, WE OVERWHELMINGLY OVERCOME, WE ARE TRIUMPHANTLY VICTORIOUS, AND OVERWHELMING VICTORY IS OURS, due to and through Christ who loved us; and NOTHING shall separate us from His love (in 8:35).

Storms WILL come into our lives. Guaranteed. Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass ... or moaning when the storm is predicted ... or asking 'why me' when the storm hits your house. Life is about learning to build your house on the Rock so it can withstand the beating of life's storms, instead of building your house on shifting sand. See Matthew 7:24-27, Jesus' parable of The Wise and Foolish Builders. For many years I've been a foolish builder. No more. To find out how build wisely, see the preceding in Matthew chapters 5, 6, & 7 where He spells out and tells you plainly how to be a Wise Builder. -- CarolFaithWalkr

I deem myself fortunate in having the opportunity, at a stage of a long life drawing rapidly to its close, to bear at this place, the capital of our National Union, in the Hall of representatives of the North American people to bear my solemn testimonial of reference and gratitude to that book of books, the Holy Bible The Bible carries with it the history of the creation, the fall and redemption of man, and discloses to him, in the infant born at Bethlehem, the Legislator and Saviour of the world.

What About Exercise? by Reinhard Engels, www.nosdiet.com:

Of course you should exercise. Diet can't substitute for exercise. You need to do both. If you're having trouble figuring out what exercise to do, consider walking. If you feel walking is too, well, pedestrian, get over it. Health-wise, it's the best long term exercise you can do, and the only consistently useful or interesting one. If you need more color, you'll get plenty using my homemade exercise device as a supplement.

The No S Diet is about eating in MODERATION. If you can lose significant weight without exercise, you're not eating moderately -- you're eating immoderately LITTLE. That's not sustainable or good.

Don't look at your problem as being too heavy. Look at your problem as two behavioral problems 1) eating too much 2) moving too little. Both of these need to be solved. Solving just one "too much" isn't a real solution.

I know people hate to be told they ought to exercise, but I really think coming at it from these two directions makes it much easier, because you don't have to do THAT much from either. You don't need 3 hour workouts. Try 14 minutes.

Tips from a Great One
A few of my favorite quotes from Dr. Stephen Covey

"Live life in crescendo!"

"Most of us spend too much time on what is urgent and not enough time on what is important."

"Effective leadership is putting first things first. Effective management is discipline, carrying it out."

"Live out of your imagination, not your history."

"The main thing is to keep the main thing the main thing."

"There are three constants in life...change, choice, and principles."

"We are the creative force of our life, and through our own decisions rather than our conditions, if we carefully learn to do certain things, we can accomplish those goals."

"We are free to choose our actions...but we are not free to choose the consequences of those actions."

"Strength lies in differences, not in similarities."

"Wisdom is the child of integrity--being integrated around principles. And integrity is the child of humility and courage."

"Live, love, laugh, and leave a legacy."

"I walk slowly but I never walk backwards." - Abraham Lincoln

"Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day; begin it well and serenely and with too high a spirit to be cumbered with your old nonsense." Ralph Waldo Emerson

"People often say that motivation doesn't last. Well, neither does bathing - that's why we recommend it daily." Zig Ziglar

"Take the first step in faith. You don't have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step." Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

"When you reach the end of your rope, tie a knot in it and hang on." Thomas Jefferson

"The only thing that has to be finished by next Tuesday is next Monday." Jennifer Yane

Great spirits have always encountered violent opposition from mediocre minds. Einstein

All truth goes through three stages. First it is ridiculed. Then it is violently opposed. Finally, it is accepted as self-evident. Facts are stubborn, and refusal to accept them does not avoid their inexorable effects-the tragic consequences are now upon us ~Hellen Keller.

Most men can seldom accept even the simplest and most obvious truth if it would oblige them to admit the falsity of conclusions which they have delighted in explaining to colleagues, have proudly taught to others, and have woven thread by thread into the fabric of their lives. ~ Tolstoy

Hosea 4:6 (NIV): My people are destroyed from lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I also reject you as my priests; because you have ignored the law of your God, I also will ignore your children.

Differences are not intended to separate, to alienate. We are different precisely in order to realize our need of one another. ~Desmond Tutu

If broke people are making fun of your financial plan, you're on track.
- Dave Ramsey, Radio Show, 2007-06-08

A big part of being strong financially is that you know where you are weak and take action to make sure you don't fall prey to the weakness. And we ALL are weak.
- Dave Ramsey, Total Money Makeover

Turning Around
My financial life began turning around when I took responsibility for it.
- Dave Ramsey, Total Money Makeover

On Overcoming Debt
I don-t want to walk across hot coals because it is fun, but if I can be shown how a short, painful walk will do away with the lifetime of worry, frustration, stress, and fear that being constantly broke brings me, then bring on the hot coals.
- Dave Ramsey, Total Money Makeover

Taking Advice
Don't take financial advice from broke people.
- Dave Ramsey, Total Money Makeover

Friends, Family, Servants
We have all experienced loaning someone money and finding an immediate distancing in the relationship. We don-t control how debt affects relationships; debt does that independently of what we want. The borrower is servant to the lender, and you change the spiritual dynamic of relationships when you loan loved ones money.
- Dave Ramsey, Total Money Makeover

Red-Faced Kid
If the Red-Faced Kid ("I want it, and I want it now!") rules your life, you will stay broke.
- Dave Ramsey, The Total Money Makeover

The Sale of Debt
Debt has been sold to us so aggressively, so loudly, and so often that to imagine living without debt requires myth-busting. Debt is so ingrained into our culture that most Americans can't even envision a car without a payment -- a house without a mortgage -- a student without a loan -- and credit without a card. We've been sold debt with such repetition and with such fervor that most folks can't conceive of what it would be like to have NO payments.
- Dave Ramsey, Total Money Makeover

Winning at Money
Winning at money is 80 percent behavior and 20 percent head knowledge. Most of us know what to do, but we just don't do it.
- Dave Ramsey, Total Money Makeover

Total Attack Mode
Get in Total Attack Mode. All you have to do is execute, execute, execute now. If your friends that are broke aren't making fun of you, then you are not on track. If your family says, "Look, they've joined a cult!" then you are right on track.
- Dave Ramsey, from his syndicated radio program, 2006-11-24

"Debt is normal. Be weird."
- Dave Ramsey

Achieving Discipline
We have discussed how the strengths and weaknesses in your life will affect your personal finances, but we cannot leave that subject without dealing with one of life's dirtiest words -- discipline. You will have conflict, worry, shortages, and general lack of fun until you achieve some discipline in the handling of your funds. I am not saying you have to run or live in a financial boot camp, but you must start to think before you sign that check. You must begin today to look at your finances differently from how you have done so before. You must recognize that you must bring your finances totally under your control.
- Dave Ramsey, Financial Peace

More Than Math
To think that the handling of your personal finances is merely a matter of math control is naive. You must get better control of all aspects of your life. Until you do, [even the best advice] will have little effect but will instead be neutralized by the other habits in your life.
- Dave Ramsey, Financial Peace

We buy things we don't need with money we don't have to impress people we don't like.
- Dave Ramsey, The Total Money Makeover: A Proven Plan for Financial Fitness

"Act your wage."
- Dave Ramsey

You must gain control over your money or the lack of it will forever control you.
- Dave Ramsey

Pray like it all depends on God, but work like it all depends on you.
- Dave Ramsey

A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.
- Dave Ramsey

For your own good, for the good of your family and your future, grow a backbone. When something is wrong, stand up and say it is wrong, and don't back down.
- Dave Ramsey, The Total Money Makeover: A Proven Plan for Financial Fitness

That stupid saying "What you don't know can't hurt you" is ridiculous. What you don't know can kill you. If you don't know that tractor trailer trucks hurt when hitting you, then you can play in the middle of the interstate with no fear - but that doesn't mean you won't get killed.
- Dave Ramsey, Financial Peace Revisited

Stupid is not illegal.
- Dave Ramsey

Fear is the enemy of hope.
- Dave Ramsey

Without a mission statement, you may get to the top of the ladder and then realize it was leaning against the wrong building!
- Dave Ramsey

You must walk to the beat of a different drummer. The same beat that the wealthy hear. If the beat sounds normal, evacuate the dance floor immediately! The goal is to not be normal, because as my radio listeners know, normal is broke.
- Dave Ramsey, The Total Money Makeover: A Proven Plan for Financial Fitness

"Work is a surefire money-making scheme."
- Dave Ramsey

"If you want something you've never had, you'll have to do something you've never done."
- Dave Ramsey

"You wanna blow money? Put it in a 'blow' category in your budget. But at least admit it on paper!"
- Dave Ramsey

"Success is a pile of failure that you are standing on."
- Dave Ramsey

"Poor is a state of mind. Broke is, 'I'm just passing through.'"
- Dave Ramsey

"Broke people giving financial advice is like a shop teacher with missing fingers."
- Dave Ramsey

"You can't work three hours a week and make $100,000. Get rich quick doesn't work. Crock pot mentality always defeats microwave mentality!"
- Dave Ramsey

"Not until the pain of the same is greater than the pain of change will you embrace change."
- Dave Ramsey

I'm not against people having new cars. I'm against them having you. We spend a tremendous amount impressing somebody at the stoplight who we'll never meet. It makes you broke and keeps you broke.
- Dave Ramsey

Let some one else take the butt kicking on devaluation.
- Dave Ramsey

This is not a game, ... Debt has become a part of who we are. It's become that spoiled child in the grocery store with their lip stuck out: 'I want it. I want it. I deserve it because I breathe air.' And, well, that's an uphill climb in our culture right now, to go against that and say, 'Hey, let's be grownups here. Let's be mature, learn to delay pleasure, save up and pay for things.'
- Dave Ramsey

I understand completely. Sparkpeople will, no doubt, only get worse. All social sites do. Just like the internet has. Sparkpeople definitely has some kind of connection with facebook because they give points for you going there. They want to be part of the action and facebook wants them to be. After a while sites like facebook get stale and the younger crowd moves on. That is already happening. By the time old people discover sites like that young people are eager to move on to avoid them. I was disappointed to see sparkpeople getting involved with it and twitter and even pinterest. This is not why people joined this group. I do hope you will find any reason to stay in any capacity. emoticon

My problem with you leaving is that sparkpeople won't care that you are gone but your friends here will. We end up punished due to their lack of empathy. There is nowhere else for us to go. I worry about what will become of you. You don't have a social network there. You have no family. We liked knowing that you have us to talk to. I'm still waiting for your situation to change and feel that things are moving that way. I know you are used to be alone and can take care of yourself but we like to feel a part of your life.
