Spark People, Phase 2

Well, here I am again, my second time around with Spark People. I left several months ago because I became frustrated with Spark not remembering my password, even though I appreciated all its weight control features.
Also, I recently saw a brief TV spot on the local news about how someone had lost 80 pounds through this web site. And that re-sparked (pardon pun) my interest.
So here we go again. Hope to re-connect with some of the friends I knew before and of course attract new ...

I'm kind of semi-reitired; have my own graphic design/writing business following a career as a high school/community college English teacher. I've been living in the South Jersey area for many years although my hometown is Chicago.
Here's hoping for success in this re-visited Spark People phase.

My Goals:
To maintain my weight and continue a healthy lifestyle that includes daily exercise, the fountain of youth!

My Program:
• Limiting carbs and portions
• Striving for exercise 5 days a week: aerobics, walking, weight training, spinning

Personal Information:
I was previously known as "prestigepub" on this site. I decided to start as a new name so I would avoid the log-in problems I had before. I grew up in Chicago, moved to Pittsburgh as a senior in high school and came to South Jersey after graduating from Penn State's School of Journalism. Have been here ever since!

As you might tell from some of my photos, I am an animal lover and presently have two dogs and two cats. The second introduced herself to me on my front porch. I trapped her (humanely) and had her spayed. Thinking she was feral, I tried to return her to the environment--the nearby woods--but she kept coming back! Apparently she was dumped by someone because she appears fairly domesticated and loves to purr when held. So she lives life pretty much on the front porch and surrounding grounds. ( I must keep cats outdoors because of my son-in-law's allergy.) I'm discovering that cats can be wonderful pets as well as dogs...nice to have a new discovery at this age!

Other Information:
I try to stay busy and focused and keep a positive outlook on everything. Sometimes it's difficult, but usually I succeed.

Carol, this being a SENIOR college we have many in their eighties and 90's we have intermission around 3pm and they were brought in the bus at noon. They cannot eat in the auditorium so we put out snacks. We go in at noon and leave at 6.00 pm so it is a long time.
There are vending machines every where but despite my having to buy the food I prefer to find better options.
Some days I think the monthly concerts are time to see friends on a regular basis . The dress up and they smile and it is all a great treat for most. Some of the men including the younger ones love to take a bunch of the cookies-the chocolate ones of course. I could try again with fruit but many of the older ones could not chew on carrots etc so I do believe after rationalizing my thoughts I will bite the bullet and go with the flow. They come they have a good time and many smiles so it will be the wonderful same old same old. I do not eat it and we do put out Diabetic cookies too.
I am so glad you asked the question. YOU MADE ME REALLY THINK THIS THROUGH. Many Thanks Pat in Maine.

I got a stress reaction (pre-cursor to stress fracture) in my left tibia. This was after doing Big Sur Marathon. Life is continuing, but it is stealing my mojo. 1 month off of running.

CAROL for many people sugar is not the demon the demon is the overuse of sugar, along with many other things. Even healthy drinks like juices can raise your blood sugars . I use it sparingly when I bake. I use fruits to sweeten baked goods and few people know the difference. Natural sugars can work but Processed sugars are empty of nutrients so I do avoid those things.
The sugar alcohols and especially the sucralose give me bad headaches and nasty tastes in my mouth afterwards. I was diagnosed with chemical sensitivity over 20 years ago. I did allergy shots at home 4 shots weekly so I asked to do them myself and some of the food and chemical ones I have overcome others are still there. Since I came to Spark I am off Diabetic medication. I can keep my blood sugar numbers in check.
It is just my choice and others do try to avoid it also.
HUGS Pat in Maine. emoticon emoticon emoticon
