Progress Trumps Perfection

I believe that fitness is a lifelong journey, not a destination. I have Type 1 diabetes, and absolutely love being outdoors and active. Over the last several years, I've completed multiple 5K's, 10K's, half marathons, two full marathons, 12 triathlons (sprint and Olympic distance). The exercise part of the equation is "easy" for me to do. It's the eating part that is hard. I can easily outeat my training. I've also had several running injuries in 2013 during/after a very disappointing marathon. Running has been my "anchor" for fitness and eating well, and I've let my weight creep up to an uncomfortable level.

My Goals:
Get weight back down to 125.

A1C of 6.5 with less volatility (currently 6.8)

End 2013 with 2,000 miles cycled and 113,000 yards swam.

Recover from running injuries and then rebuild the smart way.

The overarching goal though is to be healthy and active to the extent possible.

My Program:
Track eating on Sparkpeople with goal of creating a 1 lb calorie deficit each week until I reach 125 lb goal. Once I reach that, if I start to creep up again, come back and log some more to regain calorie reality.

Personal Information:
I also have Type 1 diabetes, which motivates me to stay as healthy as possible, but also adds additional challenge to weight loss.

Thanks for your support on my blog. I am so frustrated because I've been high all day today - the first day I really try to track everything!! Argh!

I will definitely wait to see what the actual results are. Thanks again and good luck with your appointment tomorrow ;)

How neat that you ran the Fillie Trot (10K?) and are going to do Cowtown. I'm meeting another SPer at the Expo on Friday night. Will you be there? Maybe we could meet up, too?

And, as far as the Fillie Trot... I went to the park afterwards with my daughter and mom & we played. We saw a pair of women running & I guessed they did the Trot as part of their longer workout. That wasn't you, was it???

I see you've done at least one, possibly several triathlons. Which one(s) did you do? I live in the Houston area, but as you can tell I sometimes compete up in the Dallas area since my mom lives there. I'm excited to get to know you!

How was it training and competing for a triathlon with your Blood sugars? I did a 10 K once and got low twice during the race...What have you found that works best with your diabetes?

You are not the first person to recommend the book Boundaries, but hopefully you'll be the last one to recommend it before I read it. : )
I just put it on a postit note in my wallet so I can pick it up over break. I think its definitely time!
Thanks for stopping by, and reminding me what some of reading material ought to be!

Thanks for your tips - we don't have an LA fitness OR 24 hour fitness anywhere around here! I'm really leaning toward the Y...
