I'm 50 and have a sedentary job. A foot injury stopped me going to the gym and the pounds piled on. Now I finally have a sit-stand desk and a big office where I can exercise (hooping & ST!) and keep my bike for quick jaunts. So am rebuilding muscle and getting fit again.
Year 5 mission: Get fitter, get back to 140. Do small bits of exercise in breaks and keep moving. Using Runkeeper and Fitbit.
Year 4 mission: Cut amount of sedentary time, get to goal weight. Using Fitbit, another blast of The Plan, low carb. Result: After slow start and up-creeping pounds, I got a bigger office, a sit-stand desk and am cycling again.
Year 3 mission: Find more energy, get back to thin. Shorter, more frequent exercise, not so tiring. Lyn-Genet's The Plan, cut out most caffeine and dairy, more fruit, water. Result: Lost a few pounds, definitely more energy. A month working overseas set me back - need to crank up again!
Year 2 mission: Find more energy and overcome natural sloth tendencies. Gave up booze, 3x 1/2 hour cardio a week, started running and hooping. Result: weight gain but greater strength and energy.
Year 1 mission: lose muffin top, get stronger and fitter. Joined the gym, 3x 1 hour cardio a week, cal counting. Result: lost weight, gained strength, energy still low.
Get back down to 140 by end of Aug.
Run 10K by end of summer.
Use Fitbit to track steps.
Use Runkeeper for distance goals.
Low carb, high protein diet.
5 a day.
ST in work breaks.

Id like to invite you to join in my challenge to lose 10 pound in April The goal is 10 pounds but really u do what u can. The decision to how much is ultimately up to you. i know some of us might be saying 10 pounds? WOW, that is too much! cant do it! But i am here to tell u i did it for 7 months straight, (lost 75 pounds) b4 i got sick with cancer and had dropped out for 3 yrs. unfortunately due to lack of activity it took me 3 yrs to gain it all back, but im back to tell you that with your help I can do it again. if u stay within ur calories that are alotted and if u track everything that passes ur lips u can do it too. I was never one that stayed on a diet before, for more than 3 weeks at a time, and then I'd get discouraged and dropped off. i lost 75 pounds just doing calorie counting and tracking to make sure i never went over. i barely exercised ...i am handicapped and i cant do exercises in the conventional way but i flapped my arms while showering, and sitting did leg raises, went up and down my stairs whenever it struck me to do so. i did very minimal stuff. the idea was to keep moving and i did that. so i know with disipline, encouragement and motivation u can too.. so i invite u to come and join me on my 10 pound challenge! cut and paste link below

Hi Jules, I just logged on to Spark for the first time since arriving in Europe - I've now been in Paris for a week and a half, in the south of France for a month before that. Wow, it is just marvellous to be here. And I am walking so much that I can eat cheese and drink wine and not gain weight! Ha!

I will be in the UK for two weeks in early June, visiting cousins, one set of whom (which?) live near Liverpool. Is that anywhere near you? I'd love to rendez-vous if it were to work out...send me a spark mail? Sara

I'm mostly following the Plan and it helps me stay in a good weight range... I'd like to be 3-4 pounds lighter to get back to last year's "normal" but I do realize life has to be lived as well.
Good luck getting the gym first thing!
