I'm a Florida Native who is working on health and wellness. Struggling to get back to plant based diet, as my guy is phenomenal at grilling, smoking, and preparing fabulous MEATS!! (We're talking bacon, steak, smoked turkey, smoked cheese, et cetera!)

I have cancer which has virtually eliminated my favorite exercise: walking. The combination of certain meds & inactivity has caused diabetes (which does not run in my family). I am so bummed! I've been dealing with a "Frankenleg" and active cancer since 2011. A plant based diet seems the best way to get healthier, and reduce (maybe even eliminate!) the cancer and the diabetes. So I start again...alongside a Sicilian sweetie who alternates as well between knowing plant based is best, and making the best food (non-vegan) I've ever tasted! (Did I mention his gelato??)

I have a tendency to cave early in the diet, but the health issues just can't be ignored. So once again I'm signing in, listing my goals, blogging to clear my mind, and trying to stay inspired. Priorities!!

My Goals:
to get to a normal BMI, reduce the stress on my joints, lose the cancer, lose the new diabetes, get some energy, feel human again, and enjoy good health

My Program:
plant based diet and hopefully finding some exercise that does not inflame "Frankenleg." Joel Fuhrman, J. D. Roth, and a little macrobiotics are my biggest sources of inspiration.

Personal Information:
5th generation Native Floridian, bibliophile, genealogist, Occupational Therapist, with a love of humor. I've hit that 6th decade where the body says, "Metabolism? WHAT metabolism?" And I tend to veer off the road of dietary faithfulness to the one that's paved with "good intentions." Oh well. Every day is a new beginning.

Thanks for the note on my blog! I do feel very encouraged by results so far. I had totally burned out on the whole diet thing. I really love the Every Other Day Diet because it's so manageable (at least right now!!). It's tough to do Eat to Live when your partner wants to eat a different way. Or if you have a social life, or just like eating in restaurants sometimes!! It worked really well for me and I'm sure it's very healthy but I just couldn't keep it up after a while.

Sounds like you're dealing with some very serious health challenges, which I'd guess might help in terms of motivation but also probably make everything harder!! I wish you all the best!

Thanks for commenting on my blog. Yes, it's true...once the game begins no one wants to leave the tv. I've made sure healthy snacks are out on the table in the living room. The best part about having everything out is that no one is heading to the kitchen and peeking to see what we have to snack on. That's when things can really get out of control.

Psyched to see Horton is back tonight! We'll probably be sitting in front of the tv for the Pat's tomorrow as well. mmmmmmmm.......all this game watching makes me think I should make a point of getting up and moving while watching.

mmmmmmmmmm....I think there is a plan forming in my mind. emoticon That's it! I am going to do swiss ball Ab work during each commercial break!

Hope you enjoy the game tomorrow! Go Pats!!

I saw your Page on a friend's SP and immediately thought "I must share my John O'Donohue blog with her!" So here it is:

    http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public
    _journal_individual.asp?blog_id=3009837

I hope you enjoy it! I just ordered the DVD, A Celtic Pilgrimage with John O'Donohue: "A Celtic Pilgrimage is a journey through the sacred landscape of western Ireland, guided by John. Weaving ancient wisdom with personal history and breath-taking imagery, the documentary reveals a deeper Ireland beyond the usual travelogues. With mischievous humor, keen modern awareness, and a deep, empathic spirituality, John leads the viewer on an enlightening, emotionally affecting tour. Along the way he offers profound insights on life, death, suffering, creativity, and the divine."

    Can't wait to get it!

    Blessed be!
