My latest creation... guess what it's made from! (the flower, not the tree)
I'm a homeschool Mom, born and bred in Arkansas, married for 20 years, raising 2 boys. I do wear shoes, but only when I have to! I have spent all of my life taking care of other people, but ignoring myself. Well, you can only bump along with that for so many decades before it catches up with you.
In 2009, at age 37, I had to begin taking blood pressure medicine. By summer of 2010, the weight just kept coming on. I had neither the time nor the energy to do anything about it. My physical, mental, and emotional well-being were at an all-time low.
In the month of my 39th birthday, I felt like I had one last chance to get it together and take care of ME. If I didn't get a grip on my health, I would never be able to accomplish so many of the things I wanted in life. I was not going to be able to reap the benefits of getting older and seeing all I'd worked for come to fruition. I was heading for disaster, and I could see it coming.
I have never been one to exercise on purpose. I love gardening, yardwork, and hiking, but I can do those things at any pace. I knew I had to get drastic. SO I began to RUN! Then I started tracking everything that went into my mouth.
As I have run, tracked, and studied so much about nutrition; I have become a newer, better, never-would-have-believed-it ME.
Several factors played a role in my successful health turn around: a supportive family, a great training program provided by the LR Marathon (free), SP tools and trackers, and the SparkFriends I have made who have encouraged me and cheered me on every step of the way.
SP tools keep me motivated and running keeps me empowered!
Next 1/2 Marathon- St. Jude's in Memphis- December 2012
Wanting to take up Yoga- Doing it daily!
To get rid of high blood pressure medicine-ACCOMPLISHED 3/11/11
To lose 25 pounds- Accomplished 7/2011 Now I'm going for 5 more! Accomplished 2/17/2012
To run a half marathon -Accomplished 3/4/2012
To be able to enjoy "growing older" -not just surviving it- I'M DOING IT!!
My Summer Program:
Cardio- I get to mix it up in the summer: bikes, kickboxing, gazelle, swimming, & mowing
Drinking lots of water!
More Fruits/Veggies- Trying hard for 4/day
I'm a homeschool Mom with 2 boys who are growing up fast. We've just finished 11th and 7th grades this year.
Happily married for 20 years-Adore my husband.
I come from a big, crazy Southern family, but try to stay sane!
I'd love for you to check out my blog site.

Hi Roxanne. Thanks for the goodie you sent me. It's been a miserable week around here . I've been nursing a sick horse and haven't been on the computer very much all week. Finally got the vet out here last night and I'm hoping she starts getting better this morning, Did you get any of that rain yesterday? It just poured here and the temps dropped almost 30 degrees. Just love it. I hope it stays cooler for awhile. We all need a break.

Did you sign up for the St. Jude Half Marathon?
I got the email about signing up, but didn't get to it right away -- and then it was closed!
So we are going to do the Route 66 Half Marathon in Tulsa the weekend before thanksgiving.
Maybe next year for the St. Jude!

Good Morning, Roxanne. Loved the Goodie you sent me. I really need to remember to smile more. Everyone is fine here on the farm but we're really in need of rain. For some reason, the rain seems to go right around my mountain. Our fields are brown and we won't get much of a second cutting of hay. I just got back from North Carolina. My youngest grandkid graduated from high school. Now that's enough to make a person feel old. Had a good time but I'm really glad to be home.
