Hello! Today I finally figured out the way to reach your blog and caught up with your activities. Beautiful pictures! Thank you for posting!
Your branble-berry story gave me a chuckle!
About 1975, I was living on a farm in Wyoming and I decided I must try growing raspberries. The first year I was moderately successful. Many mornings I went out and picked and ate my whole crop, out of hand, soon after sunrise.
The following year, production was even better. One morning, I carried about a pint of berries inside to eat them with cream and sugar. Guess what floated to the top of my bowl of cream, spoiling the treat for me? A multitude of tiny caterpillars! I had probably eaten that number the previous year, but it's better not to know!
The following winter, all my raspberry plants died during a prolonged subzero spell. That was the end of my raspberry growing! Here in the desert, it isn't even worth trying.
