Embracing the real me

Losing weight is not easy but I continue to persevere and keep on trying. One of the things that I am striving for is to be realistic with myself. I have no intention of being a skinny little twig, nor do I think that I will lose 20 lbs within the first month. I've struggled a lot for the past few months, gaining over 20 lbs BUT I never gave up. I may have had a lot of really hard days but I kept telling myself I was going to get back up and try again. I put my hand to the grindstone (literally in some cases- such as when I ground up coconut flour and rice flour) and started trying to eat healthy again. I am now at the point where I have started tracking my food again (manually- it works better for me) and doing a little bit of exercise. I had let circumstances beat me down but now I'm back up ready to fight for myself.

I'm 30 almost 31. I may not be where I wanted to be according to my original goals, but I'm still plugging away at this. I don't have any fantastical goals in mind other than fitting into the clothes that fit 20 lbs ago but I am committed to continuing this healthy lifestyle.

I have several reasons to want to lose weight. Number one is me. I want to be smaller. I want to fit into the clothes that fit me just a few months ago. I want to be hopeful that the clothes that are stored up in the attic are worth bringing down to try on. I want to feel healthy without pain. I want to feel better about myself when I look in the mirror. The second reason is my husband. I want to help him try harder. When I am doing great he is a little more apt to try for himself. He'll go out of his way to make something that is healthier often times and I know that will help him. Third, I want to be healthier for my kids. Fourth, I want to be able to run in case we ever have a zombie apocolypse ;) (walking dead fan here.)

So, how to achieve this non goal goal? Well, first of all I am tracking. Why do I always think that I can get away without doing it? Maybe I'll get there one of these days, but for now its writing down every BLT (no, not every bacon, lettuce, tomato- and fyi that would be turkey bacon cuz I don't eat pork- but every bite, lick, and, taste). Second is to gain strength. So, I am beginning a ST routine that I will increase as I go- its just 10 simple ST moves such as pushups, squats, etc. I started out with 10 reps and will work my way up 3 days a week until I am doing 3 sets of 25
What else? Oh- I am trying more of a back to basics type of approach. I am trying to make a large majority of my foods from scratch- such as yogurt, granola, soup, fermented veggies, healthy baked goods. I've tried a few gluten free recipes just for kicks but have no plans to go gluten free. I try to eat a lot less bread products than I used to though. I often only have bread at night and not very much at all.
My life is kind of chaotic right now. I have a husband (actually if it weren't for him i wouldn't be able to handle the chaos- he's a lifesaver for sure) and two kids ages 3 and 5. I homeschool my daughter and try and keep my son preoccupied. We live with friends who also have 2 kids and a baby on the way. I am often watching their two during the day especially now that my friend only has 5-8 weeks left till her baby comes. I'm active in my congregation on Friday nights and in a local church on Sundays and Wednesdays. Yet, amidst all this chaos, I feel like I can actually do this. Yes, I'm accepting this challenge and am moving myself forward with the expectation that I will lose weight- not just one or two pounds but a decent amount. Maybe I'll go make some actual goals now =)

My Program:
Food- counting calories and eating healthy (ie: more freggies, more healthy proteins, less fatteing ones, more whole grains, less junk)

Personal Information:
I am originally from Eau Claire, WI but now reside in Gloucester, VA. I've been overweight since I was a teen. 6 years ago I lost 70 pounds before I got pregnant. Lost 50 of that only to gain it all back with my son. Now I have lost over 30 of those preggo pounds and I am on the right track.

Other Information:
I love to dance, play the piano (haven't done that in forever but I still love it), listening to music of all genres, and reading books. I'm a big Walking Dead fan and love Netflix!

My diet is high in fruit. I eat a minimum of 3 lbs of bananas a day. I also have about 1 lb of greens per day. It's easy to get a lot of fiber that way.

Thanks for stopping by my blog and leaving me an encouraging note. Yes, I do have the Breville Juice Fountain. Juicing is not cheap. And cleanup is a pain. But it does help with the weight loss and for me the edema. Hope you are having a great night.
