I have struggled with obesity my entire adult life. I finally became serious about losing it about 5 years ago. At that time, I was just over 520 pounds and got winded just walking to the bathroom.
Through a doctor supervised program (no surgeries, just diet and exercise) I lost 150 pounds in a year and a half. But then I lost my job and had to drop out of the program. 2 years later, I started a similar program, and discovered I had gained back every pound.
But, I got busy and again lost about 128 pounds. Again I had to quit. I got serious again the end of March, and had gained back only 36 pounds in a year and a half. I was happy it wasn't more.
I can't look at the weight left to lose, but focus on these small triumphs.I have finally accepted that this is not a diet, but a change of lifestyle, that will continue even after I have reached my goal weight (whatever that might be.) Reading the successes of others helps keep me focused. I know I can do this.
I'm focusing on 50 pounds at a time.
I'd be thrilled to be a 200 pound person, so I'm changing my lifestyle as if I already were. I keep my calories under 2000, and exercise 4-5 hours a week.
