Hi. I am a 64 year old who has been eating too many carbs and my blood sugar has begun to creep back up. As a result, I am returning to what worked when I was first diagnosed as pre-diabetic.
ATKINS INDUCTION (because I have a lot more than 2 weeks' worth of weight to lose). My ultimate goal is to lose from 166.8 to at least 130 and maybe a bit lower (I am 1.5 inches shorter than I was in high school).

Starting weight 166.8
5% of starting weight 8.34 pounds.
Ending weight will be 158.46

Exercise Plan: 120 min a day
3 days a week upper body total gym, HIIT treadmill with "fill in walking" 15 min stretching 15 min dancing
3 days a week lower body total gym rest same as above
1 day a week "off" fro total gym workout HIIT with Kathy Smith instead rest is same as the others.

Eating between 25 and 40 g of carbs a day, between 14 and 22 net carbs a day (net carbs is total carbs - fiber grams)

My Goals:
To lose at least 5% of my total body weight during the 5% Winter Challenge, and ultimately to be at a healthy weight (probably between 120 and 130 based on my height but more depends on my waist circumference). I am an apple (for lack of a better description because it is not all in my middle, but all ABOVE the waist!). A better goal is my old 28" waist from a health standpoint.

My Eating Program:
Atkins and I will follow through to the end this time. Induction is very low carb until I am close to my ultimate goal weight (within 5 or 10 pounds). Then I will follow the plan and add an adding 5 grams of carbs (from the foods I am allowed to eat now) every day for a week and see if I gain or stop losing. If I am still losing, I add another 5, until I find my carb limit. Once I know that limit to maintain my weight I will continue with the plan to check for food sensitivities. Since a lot of people are sensitive or allergic to nuts, I will choose 1 nut, say pistachio, and I eat a serving of that for 3 days and see if I have a reaction, start gaining weight, or just stop losing.. After 7 days if there is no reaction and I am still losing, I know that food is not a problem for me. Next week, different nut....to the end of the food categories. I was too impatient to do it before but now I am determined.




Personal Information:
Married 43 years in 2017 to a wonderful man. Two grown children, 6 grands and a great-grand. Love to cook. Also sew, knit, crochet, cross stitch and crafts. Read. Play piano, saxophone, and accordion. Had a very hard time when the kids left the nest. Took 13 years for me to get over it. Gained this weight when I got something called Lichen Planus (they don't know what causes it or how to treat it). A lot of people have it in their mouths, and a few break out in a rash. I was one of the "lucky" ones and had it for 16 years. It is lavender and itches and spreads just like poison ivy. I personally believe it was due to the fact that I had just taken a round of powerful antibiotics and my immune system aka gut bacteria was "wiped out." The doctors were no help at all, but after research and nurturing my flora the outbreaks stopped in 2009 and it has been gone, even out of my mouth since then. Now I am only left with the weight gain it caused (well, gained 40 with the lichen planus and then


Other Information:
My true highest beginning weight was 227 in Feb of 2011. Somewhere I think there is a picture of me then. If I can find it, it will be my Before Picture. My fasting blood sugar was 116. Lost 20 pounds in 4 months by just watching myself and my portions but my blood sugar didn't change. Went on Atkins and in 3 days my fasting blood sugar was 98. I stayed on it from June 1 2011 until mid October lost 37 more for a total of 57 pounds lost but then ate a piece of birthday cake (though I didn't crave a thing) and fell way off the wagon.. Got off Atkins and gained 20 back. I have been rocking back and forth with those 20 or 30 pounds for years and now it has to stop!
