Hi. I am a 63 year old who has pre-diabetes and is determined to get on track and not only lose the weight, but maintain the loss1 I am still healthy enough to work out but that may not be true in the years to come if I don't do something now! I have often thought that it wouldn't take much to lose control---like being "down" for 2 or 3 months, to gain back all that I have lost and really get in ill health.

So taking one day at a time, and back on schedule with my workouts and walking. Keeping my net carbs per meal down by having one snack and 3 meals and waiting 5 hours between meals and at least 3 before snack. Total net carbs per day will be determined by my progress in the weight loss department.

Good Luck All!

My Goals:
I want to be healthy, sleep well and soundly, and have the stamina to dance the way I used to dance. I want to feel good about my appearance again and not look in the mirror and think "Who is that?"

My Program:
Exercising and eating 75% fresh foods and organic foods when I can find them. Watching my portions and drinking at least 8 glasses of filtered water daily. Limiting my calories to between 1200 and 1500 and burning off at least 700 cal a week.

Personal Information:

Other Information:
My true beginning weight was 227 in Feb of 2011. Lost 20 in 4 months by just watching myself and my portions. Went on Atkins for 4 months and lost 32 more but felt deprived and cholesterol was going up. Got off Atkins and gained 20 back. Then started back with SparkPeople just eating lower carbs than the tracker has for me. Have lost 9 pounds since then.
As of Dec 18, 2013 I began the Virgin Diet. It has been 6 1/2 weeks and I have lost from 185 to 172 and feel better than ever!!

Something I've found that helps the A1C--alpha lipoic acid capsules. I started taking them in January and 20 days later had a regular blood work up and my A1C went from 6.4 (.1 away from being diabetic) to 6.0. I take 200 mg with my morning meds on an empty stomach and didn't make any other changes. you might want to check it out..... emoticon

WOO HOO!! One of my friends (who was a friend before my sparkpeople days) actually made a comment the other day that lets me know that my new healthier lifestyle is influencing her personal health decisions!!! I have hoped for this, that friends and family would be inspired by the changes they see in me!!! I believe that our health is the most important determinant (at least that is in our control) in our happiness as we age and mental, physical, and spiritual health are equally important, in my eyes...for each aspect affects the others.......

for responding to my question about healthy breakfast ideas. I do know I should eat a healthy snack in between breakfast and lunch. However, I have a very active job working as a surgical nurse and I rarely if ever even get to use the restroom much less be able to eat a snack. And we are not supposed to bring any food back to the surgical suites with us for our and patients safety.

I was going to give you a goodie but you don't have your page setup to give you one!
    Thanks again!!!

re: " You are THE spark!!!"

    NO!!!

    I am "a" spark.

    You are "a" spark also!

You know who taught me to greet newcomers? Sparkers like MINDBODYANDGOAL, KIMI_SILVA, THEREALWITCHYG and GETSTRONGRRR

Some of them have come and gone from Spark. But I never took it personally. I just took the "light and love" and passed it on...to you.

Your turn now. When you want to...when you have time...

If you go the "Community Tab" up at the top.
    Click on "Blogs"
Scroll down to "New Blog Entries" and click on it
Then next to the line that reads: Below are recent blog posts that other members have enjoyed reading." there is blue link that says:

"Click to see only members' 1st blog posts"

That is how I found you!

You posted a first blog and you were on that feed.

I welcome people when I can because I know how great it feels to get a emoticon and a few positive words.

Feel free to take my intro to YOU and copy use it as is or alter in any way you see fit and pass it on!!

No pressure. Just wanted to let you in on my "little secret"

    XOXO
