Hi. I am a 63 year old who had pre-diabetes but through my intense progressive weigh lifting program and increased activity, my fasting blood sugar has gone from 116 to 94-100 99% of the time.

Sorry I haven't posted any "secrets of my success" but I would if the post didn't have to be 300 words long......:)

Well I have had a "rude awakening!" Have never had a full-length mirror in my house until now. Today when I got ready to take my shower, stood in front of it and critically evaluated my stretched, misshapen, and abused birthday suit It is in dire need of attention so the spot in front of that mirror is my "motivation station" for the rest of my life! I need to see what others see when I am in my bathing suit, lol.

Fitness Minutes: 12,111

My Goals:
To lose 5% of my body weight (which will be 9.5 pounds) in 8 weeks. The Challenge starts today and ends on June 2. That will bring my weight to 180.5.

My ultimate weight goal is 120-130 pounds. I plan to increase upper body strength until I can pull up and chin up my body weight. I plan to increase stamina until I can walk 90 minutes at 4mph so I can complete the slowest pre-programmed walking program on my treadmill. I plan to get back into my size 9 jeans (from back in the day when a 9 was a REAL size 9! What is a size ZERO, anyway? Just sayin'..) which was a 28' waist.


My Program:
My eating plan is high fiber (30-45 grams fiber) and watching the carbs. Taking my post prandial blood sugar I can eat as many as 50 grams net carbs with a pp of 120 or less. 1500 to 2000 ca( just raised by Sparkpeople) but plan to split it between 3 meals with 4-5 hours between for the sake of my blood sugar, with NO after dinner eating!
Exercise plan : Walking (adjusted on days that I weight-train which is 3x a week) walking 50 minutes on days when I am weight-training and 90 min on the days I am not. Walking at least 8,000 steps a day. Dancing at least 15 minutes daily. Working with alternative exercise equipment for at least 10 minutes a day, and changing it up with my many dvds and the exercise videos available here on sparkpeople. Combined total of at least 120 exercise minutes a day and with the goal to burn at least 500 calories a day through exercise.



Personal Information:
Married 43 years in 2017 to a wonderful man. Two grown children, 6 grands and a great-grand. Love to cook. Also sew, knit, crochet, cross stitch and crafts. Read. Play piano, saxophone, and accordion. Had a very hard time when the kids left the nest. Took 13 years for me to get over it. Gained this weight when I got something called Lichen Planus (they don't know what causes it). A lot of people have it in their mouths, and a few break out in a rash. I was one of the "lucky" ones and had it for 16 years. It is lavender and itches and spreads just like poison ivy. I personally believe it was due to the fact that I had just taken a round of powerful antibiotics and my immune system aka gut bacteria was "wiped out." The doctors were no help at all, but after research and nurturing my flora the outbreaks stopped in 2009 and it has been gone, even out of my mouth for 6 years. Now I am only left with the weight gain it caused. That will be history soon. This has been with me LONG ENOUGH!


Other Information:
My true highest beginning weight was 227 in Feb of 2011. Somewhere I think there is a picture of me then. If I can find it, it will be my Before Picture. Lost 20 in 4 months by just watching myself and my portions. Went on Atkins for 4 months and lost 32 more but felt deprived and cholesterol was going up. Got off Atkins and gained 20 back. Then started back with SparkPeople just eating lower carbs than the tracker has for me. Have lost 9 pounds since then.
As of Dec 18, 2013 I began the Virgin Diet. In 6 1/2 weeks and I lost from 185 to 172 and felt better than ever!!
However, I left and gained back up to 200 and am back again. This time is the charm!
