I'm 62y/o, retired and very happy to own my time again. I'm going to give Sparkpeople a try again. I was using it for a while and stopped since I did not have much to time to dedicate to the site, you know, all the reading, input, tracking every morsel, etc. I simply gave up. Some days I was able to reach my goals, others, I was either to low in my food intake or too high, sometimes I would go to the gym religiously, most of the time, I was an absentee. So, being retired now, I can plan and do without the time constriction. I put on 15 pounds since I stopped using Sparkpeople and I am going to get rid of it pretty soon.

Thanks so much for your encouraging message on my blog. Yes, we all have to learn to take care of ourselves, and we must remind ourselves how important it is on a daily basis!

Have a great week.

You are quite right about no Biblical basis for Abstinence from meat. But there is a part of the Catholic teaching that comes from Tradition (capital T). And it was Tradition (capital T) that gave us the books of the Bible in the first place. Read tonight's post for part 2.

Regardless of where you stand on Bible-only or Bible + Tradition + the magesterium (or teaching authority of the Church) the back story of "why fish on Friday" is history.

The part I mentioned about the people condemned to Hell for eating fish on Friday is only one-half of an old joke.
