I hadn't logged into Spark for awhile, and just caught up with your blog. I offer you my condolences on the death of your dear mother. I'm sorry I wasn't aware of it earlier but my thoughts are now with you during this difficult time. 3 hours ago

Thanks Claire for your comments on my blog. It is wonderful to see the pictographs in their original site, but there are flaws -- many of them have been damaged or vandalized. But most of the sites are on Native American tribal lands, and the tribes believe it is an important part of their heritage to leave the work of their ancestors on the rock walls where they belong. At Chaco Canyon, several informational signs were put up pointing out damage that had been done by two juveniles; the families were fined several thousand dollars. The Navaho tribe and National Parks agreed to use the money from the fines to post informational signs and warnings, instead of restoring or restricting the petroglyphs. 2 days ago
