Work with what you have, while you have it!

I have been a member here on Spark since December 2007. It all started as a new years resolution and 6 yrs later I am still here doing the best I can. When I joined my weight was at 282. I have always struggled with weight, even as a little kid I was always the biggest kid in all of my classes all through school. Lost 80lbs when I was 19 and then gained it back and some. So at 23 I started this journey for myself, not anyone else. At my lowest so far I got down to 151 and then been bouncing ...
At my lowest so far I got down to 151 and then been bouncing around for awhile. Losing the weight was the fun part. Reaching maintenance is what is hard. There will always be stresses in our lives and it's hard not to turn to food to make us feel better, gotta just do the best you can with what you got, each and every day.

I try to stay motivating with the lifestyle by signing up for races and always having something to work toward. I used to hate running, I was the kid who hid her shoes in gym class or faked cramps on running day. Now I have run 1 full marathon and 3 halves. I try to always change up my exercise and not get bored. I WERQ, water aerobics, bike commute and run. I also have a job at a health food store and that helps to talk to ppl and stay motivated with healthy eating. Always finding new veggies and fruits to try and keeping up a love for cooking. Which I never had before I gained this lifestyle. Now it's like therapy to me along with my fitness.

Just gotta do your best each and every day!

My Goals:
I am not really looking at weight as a goal anymore. Right now I am trying to experiment with dropping some weight to see if my running improves by being lighter. My weight goal has always been 140 but I have a muscular build so I donno if that's even feasible for me. My weight training is more important then a number on the scale. My goal is to become a brick lol

My Program:
I workout at least 5- 6 days a week. I enjoy doing a lot of cross training. I run 2-days a week, Take dance classes 2-3 days a week, water aerobics and do some weight lifting

Personal Information:
My name is Julia, Julie or Jules, whatever you wanna call me. I am 28 yrs old. I am 5'3 which I think I should add here. I always see ppls pics and wonder how tall they are so I can compare myself lol I am a shorty so I hope that helps someone lol

I graduated from Southern Illinois University with a bachelors in Photography. I am currently working for two business. I work at a health food/Organic Grocery store. Also work for an online book business. Which keeps me pretty active packing and shipping books. Lots of lifting which I enjoy actually. I also have a love for animals, I might even like them more then humans haha I have 3 dogs, 2 cats, 4 turtles, 2 blue tongue skinks, 1 bearded dragon and 1 cockatiels.

The vet is a really nice and compassionate caring vet when he is there but getting in contact with him is way too hard. They tell you to email them and then they don't respond. They tell you to call them and they don't respond. It's hard to get an appointment even.

We have a few over the counter chinchillas books but they are not detailed enough to be of diagnostic help. Without an x-ray it's hard to know what you are dealing with.

The bad part is Squeaker and Baxter loved each other. They played all night long. They were wild and funny and kept the others entertained. Now it is quiet at night. I went to check on them last night and Bun was sitting by Squeaker and she doesn't usually do that at night. Bun usually sits on the top shelf and watches Baxter and Squeaker with thei zany antics. Bun and Squeaker have both lost the ones they love. This morning Squeaker searched Benny's robe for Baxter. It was so sad. Squeaker has a bad heart and we were always worried what Baxter would do without her and it's the other way around.

I will have to see what I can find out about recommendations for Chinchillas books. Thanks for helping.

Thanks for telling me your info about Aleve. I'm afraid of taking it too! I just don't think enough research has been done on it. I usually take ibuprofen, but it is not helping me anymore. When I take it for migraines, it doesn't even take the edge off. And it does nothing for my leg pain. I really need to feel well enough to get some work done at the gym.

Thanks for your support. We realize our chinchillas have medical problems and that they are getting old. We have felt totally helpless to save him. Our chief problem here is no support. Baxter had surgery on Sunday and started having problems on Monday staring with diarrhea and we emailed the vet tech and the vet and neither one got back to us. In the past we have called the hospital and they know nothing and the people who do know something are never there and we have left voice mails with all with the same results. They don't call back or do so days later. We are left to figure out what to do on our own and we don't know if we contributed to Baxter's problems or not. I don't know of any exotic vets who do chinchillas but we need some help if we hope to ever be able to save the other 5 if something happens to them. I know the staff is busy and I know they need off time but most vets I have had took emergencies or had someone cover for them. A 3 hour drive is too much for us. I don't have a clue of how to find someone. He is in bed with us now. He is very weak and unable to move. We are keeping him warm and talking to him. I hope at this point he doesn't have to suffer much longer.

Ian wanted that cat so bad and the cat didn't seem to mind his suffocating attention. He put it on a pillow on the couch and never left it's side. It must have belonged to someone because it didn't resist his attention.

He is highly allergic to dander of any kind. He has severe allergies to tons of things. Has to take allergy meds twice a day year round. Sometimes more than one kind. He might be able to have a hairless kind but I don't know that he would warm up to that like he does other dogs. He got major crushes on his friend's pets. And he rents now so no pets.

I love cats and dogs. We had fish for Ian when he was little which is what Ian's pediatrician suggested but, like my mom said, that is not much of a pet. He would watch them in the aquarium but you can't hold them. She would sneak around and buy small rodents and have them for him at her house so we gave up and got him some Chinese Dwarf hamsters. When he got older we were told that chinchillas didn't cause allergies. He can't be anywhere near a cat or dog or he breaks out in whelps and wheezes. It's a shame as he always loved dogs and cats too. He once found a pregnant cat in the yard and dragged it in. He was wheezing when his dad got home and covered with whelps but told his dad, "Look, Daddy, I found a good kitty that won't make me sick." I was a coward and made Benny be the bad guy - it comes natural to men. LOL.

We usually try to get the outdoor stuff done before winter. We have some other outdoor projects that need done. We can wait on the inside of the back porch until later on.
