In 2010, I religiously followed the SparkPeople program and lost 92 pounds, which was approximately half of my weight loss goal. I was able to achieve that in an 8 month period. To make a long story short, one of my sons was experiencing some personal issues and moved back home. His move back home was the beginning of my demise. It's not that I don't love my son - I do. The problem was he regularly brought in junk food into the house. After awhile, I had a very hard time avoiding the temptation, and unfortunately, my weight crept back up on me.
Since the New Year, I have been promising myself I would get "back on track" with my healthy eating program. It is now June; I turned 50 two weeks ago. A few days after I turned 50, my legs swelled up like balloons and a splotchy red rash covered my skin from my ankles up to the knee. The rash was hot to the touch. It was painful to walk, and I had to miss work. The doctor couldn't say for certain what was wrong with me, but a blood test determined that I am pre-diabetic - only one point away from diabetes as it relates to the amino globin blood test. I was prescribed Metformin and water pills. My own mother experienced leg issues like this for many years. She ended up being diagnosed with diabetes and had a leg amputated. In addition, diabetes claimed the lives of my maternal grandmother and great grandfather. This is one family tradition that I am determined to break - for once and for all.
My health scare is still very much a reality for me. Because of my swollen and painful legs, I have been sedentary for the past few days. I missed celebrating my boyfriend's birthday yesterday because I was in too much pain to move. One thought crossed my mind - and that is this - I'll be damned if I am going to live the rest of my life like this. There is still so much I want to do - I am a full-time college student and I want to see my graduation; I want to travel the world; and I want to be able to utilize my degree in my everyday work. At this rate, I won't be able to achieve any of my goals.
So - here I am. I am starting all over again t0day. I am looking forward to achieving milestones here on SparkPeople. I know it will take time, and it won't be easy, but it will be worth it. Like the old adage says - How do you consume an entire elephant? One day at a time.
My goal is to achieve an ideal weight for me; one that will enable me to live an active, adventure-filled life.
I plan to eat sensibly without depriving myself of anything. The key is to eat smaller portions, in addition to consuming a regular, healthy diet which includes lots of veggies and fruit.
I live in beautiful NW Arkansas. I am a full-time student at the U of A, working on earning my degree in Human Resources. I am also an award-winning jewelry design artist with my own online business.
I enjoy traveling, creating, dancing and singing. I also enjoy my time at home; it's my escape from the everyday craziness of the world.

Hope your vacation was restful; enjoy your last day. Also, I have noticed when on your SparkPage that you sell on Etsy (earrings on background are so cute!) Had good luck with Etsy? Is it hard to get started with? I'm looking for another venue to sell my jewelry & jewelry-wire style rosaries. I tried eBay 6-7 yrs ago with moderate success. Mostly selling by word of mouth, locally & church fairs now. I'm hoping to get my little cottage industry back in operation this fall... Hope your precious daughter's well. Is she still planning on the Dominican's, up my way, after high school? It would be so cool to have her nearby having met yall on SP. Hope she's surviving exams. My son's 3 exams away from an 8 course load of exams. My daughter, being a senior, took early exams for her 4 college board, AP courses & was exempt from other 4 due to 100 or above avg all yr long. She graduated from high school last Sunday (top 10 in her class!)
Last thing...noticed you lived in north AR. My cousin lived in Stutgard & a brother/sister-in-law in Blytheville. Both have moved, but I used to send Christmas cards to AR for a long time.
God bless you, Wanda, & give you peace,
