I believe in being positive and proactive, because you can't lead a positive life with a negative mind! Of course, I also get down sometimes and need to whine a little! I believe in being positive and proactive, because you can't lead a positive life with a negative mind! Of course, I also get down sometimes and need to whine a little! Maintaining a healthy weight has always been work for me. I've never been a skinny girl. I'm 5'3" and can look stocky or a wee bit chubby if I gain just 5-10 pounds on my petite figure. At my best, I can rock an athletic-slim look, but I have to workout a minimum of one hour a day and eat low fat, low sugar, low carb and low calorie to stay lean and tone. I found that running regularly for one hour can keep me lean, but I also suffered many running injuries which derailed me often. I'm enjoying new routines to stay fit with wonderful social benefits...golf and Zumba! I've also begun a routine of yoga and strength training this year!
In order to stay leaner and toner, I have to workout, track my calories and weigh myself, like... ALWAYS. It's a very slippery slope to skipping workouts and eating pizza in sweatpants! I do not like the feeling of being tired and unmotivated, having my clothing fit too tightly or seeing my unflattering weight gain and ruddy skin. The worst feeling is when I see an overweight photograph of myself and it is much bigger and unflattering than I perceived myself to be! I've learned that how my clothing fits, the scale number and the camera are the best reality checkers. The mirror can be deceiving!
I'm working on how to deal better with life issues like stress, boredom, anxiety and injury. I'm focusing on getting back on track faster after splurges. I am planning my weekly schedule around my workout goals. At breakfast, I also plan out my meals for the day in a journal. This helps me think about what fresh ingredients I might need to pick up at the store for dinner. In my journal, I also try to think of ways I could improve, how to cope with setbacks and how I can prevent future setbacks. I am trying to acknowledge my non scale victories instead of being upset with the number on the scale. I am thanking myself for the gift of each workout and healthy eating choice. I keep thinking all of my efforts are moving me forward toward the direction of my goals and not backward and that all these little steps I'm taking are simply my path toward success!
