Too Twiggy

Up until about 2 years ago I never really thought about my personal health. I lived a very sedentary lifestyle and had a lot of bad habits. Between smoking, eating terrible, and being a couch potato, I felt like I owed it to my body to make a change.

I started out biking, as it was something I always enjoyed and really wanted to work primarily on cardio. I quickly saw improvements, but after time also started noticing I was losing a lot of weight. (a lot, for me, being 15 pounds) ...

(a lot, for me, being 15 pounds)

I have always been a lightweight, regardless of how terrible I ate I never have tipped over the 145-ish area on the scale (5'10"). I'm still hovering around the 130 pound area, and ideally my goal would be to gain that weight back but as muscle.

Tired of being self-conscious about being scrawny. I'm trying to put on some mass but finding it to be very difficult regardless of how hard I work or what my diet consists of.

While I don't feel like I look sickly (though I do hate that I can see my ribs.... ugg) I hate getting comments on a *daily basis* about how I should "eat a sandwich" or hearing comments about how it wouldn't "kill me to eat that X, Y, Z; I could use a few extra pounds" --- Yea, Thanks. I know. It's not as if I'm bulimic, I shouldn't have to apologize for not being the typical Wisconsinite... in other area's of the world I feel like I'd be a completely normal weight. And how rude... do people walk up to those who are overweight and tell them to stop eating?!?!? Skinny people can be self-conscious too ya know....

That said, I do maintain a pretty healthy diet. I'm not any strict food-nazi. Not vegetarian or vegan, I eat what I like but the majority of my meals consist of lots of fruits and veggies, beans, nuts, whole grains, etc. Lean meats, foods high in proteins and fibers and low in unnatural fats and preservatives.

Thanks for stopping by my blog with encouraging words. I enjoyed looking at your page -- you have a lot going for you! And take up an instrument to play. You will enjoy it and will have many years to continue it as a hobby.

If you really think your friends will just plain freak - do what I did when I quit drinking. Fill a vodka bottle with water. ;)

Otherwise, just tell them. "Nah, I'm good." They don't need the explanation or story.

Keep up the good work. You got a nice body, very nice indeed. A little bit more meat and you have the potential for some really nice muscles.

I think you'd make an awesome Gordon freeman.

What is important is how you feel inside, and if getting healthier, fitter, more energy and better self image, helps that, then good.

I wondered if I should click on "leave a comment" -- as you have NONE! I feel honored that you stopped by to read my blog, always love it when I see a new name appear! So you're from Wisconsin, I'm from MN -- also a dairy state, so it must be hard to be lactose intolerant. I'm so glad I'm not, cuz I absolutely LOVE milk!

You're looking good -- keep it up!
Hugs, Eve
