I've had a long struggle with my body and my weight.

I've been on every diet. I've had weight loss surgery. I've lost lots of weight. I've had my weight loss surgery reversed. I've gained lots of weight. I've hated my body. I've over and underfed her, moved her too much and not enough. I've bullied her and tried to beat her into submission. It has never worked. I'm just thankful she hasn't given up on me entirely.

And I've decided it's enough. I've parted ways with my scale. I've stopped logging every thing I eat and every minute of exercise. I've stopped picking food based on calorie count and exercise based on calorie burn. None of those things made me feel good. And actually, none of those things made me lose weight and keep it off.

After reading The Desire Map at the beginning of 2014, I've been on a different journey. One where I decide how I want to feel, and seek out experiences and actions that allow me to feel those feelings.

Now I have fun every day, because that makes me feel free.

I move my body in ways that feel good for me, because that feels inspiring.

I love my body for who she is today, for what she looks like today and what she can do today. I treat my body with the respect she deserves no matter how she looks, and I listen to what she's trying to tell me, because that feels authentic. My body's name is Freya, by the way, and she is one fierce goddess!

I take time every day to slow down and notice my surroundings, because that's when the magic happens.

I eat nourishing foods, without restriction, because that feels abundant.

We're all chasing the feelings that we think weight loss will bring us. I'm continually seeking ways to feel those feelings, no matter how much my body weighs.

Coach, mother, girlfriend. Desire Map workshop facilitator. I like the beach, volleyball, wine, things that sparkle, and the colour purple. Halloween is my favourite holiday.
