HI - I'm over 60, actually getting ready to join the senior citizen gang and have been diabetic for the past 5 years or more (can never really remember when it all started) I was a single mother of four and am now the single grandmother of 11. I love changes in my life and look forward to the next year when a few should come along. At this time am fearful of the lose of control over my weight and diabetes. My Goals:
To get back on track. This includes a good low carb diet to keep my glucose levels down, exercise to increase my levels of breathing and blood flow.
Overall - to feel better about myself and to make new friends.

My Program:
Am journaling all the food I put into my mouth as well as hours on the treadmill. Am looking at more positive attitudes in everything I do and mostly am trying not to be too proud to ask for help.

Personal Information:
My name is Joyce and I am from Indiana, very near Lake Michigan. ( mention this because I love going to the beach) I am turning 65 and have worked the past 12 years for an eye doctor. I also have 4 children and 11 grandchildren. Live with my sister and her 3 cats.

Other Information:
I love to read and do so as much as possible, which is never as often as I'd like. I do volunteer work in a nursing home and love every minute of it.

Stopping by from Christian Inspirations for Healthy Living to say hi and see how you're doing. Are your goals becoming more of a reality? Drop by the team or my page and let us (me) know how things are going for and with you. Have a good day! Nancy (...abetterme)

Joyce, I am responding to what you said on my spark page on 9/11. As you can see, I too have trouble keeping up and find it a problem at times... in fact quite often. However I had to make up my mind that I could no longer allow myself excuses... my life depends on it. If I continue to make excuses for myself, I will never get around to exercise (which I detest) or to stick to my diet. When I am faced with parties, I plan ahead and bring a weight watcher's muffin and a skinny cow ice cream desert if I know everyone else is having cake and ice cream or I take fresh fruit and cut veggies and dip that I can have without guilt. I understand about the long hours as I just finished a travel assignment where I was working in Sacramento 3 days a week, 12 hour shifts, in addition to my regular job here in Modesto 2 days a week. My exercise plan went out the window during that time as something had to give and I was willing to give it up...lol, but no excuses allowed in this home (no one here but me) so back to the grind stone it is now. You can spark mail me or comment me any time you need help... I am always here and if you need more "hands on" support, we can always meet half way and have a cup of coffee or a diet soda along the road side.

Joyce, I noticed on the diabetic huddle wall that you needed support but could find no post in the site where it said what you needed support on. Wish there was some hint on what there was you needed support on. Anyway, my thoughts and prayers are with you. Next time, perhaps a brief note on the site would be of benefit so we could give you some specific help. Just a suggestion.

Hi Joyce, my sister and I share a house but we have only one dog (he's mine) and no cats. I travel in my work so sharing a home with my sister is a big help to me. Welcome to SparkPeople. It's good to have you in the Living Healthy in Our 50s and Beyond Team. I'm beyond 50, too. Will be 61 this year.
