Happy wedding pic.
I heart bass clarinet. At least on some days...
Me and my hubby at the local "English pub." At least that's what it tries to be.

Okay, not the most creative title, but at least it says what I'm about. I am looking to develop life-long healthy habits as a preventive measure rather than having to fix problems later. I focus on a diet of whole foods: good meats, vegetables, fruits, nuts, and fats. Occasionally I will add a whole-grain or two in the form of oatmeal, quinoa, or rice. I'm a try-er, and while I'm not the world's greatest cook, I enjoy buying new foods and seeing what recipes I can find. ...
I am a firm believer in weight-training for women. I've done P90X, went through a phase of TacFIT Commando, and have tried Turbulence Training, but right now I'm back to classic old-fashioned weight training with a trainer, lifting only as much weight as I can maintain good control over. And I feel good!

My Goals:
Gain a few curves. I have a trainer who is helping me put on muscles in all the right places! My cholesterol profile is excellent: a 1.07 ratio, which makes me a freak of nature. But I'm a freak of nature with a total cholesterol of 228, so if I can bring my LDL down and be a cholesterol super-human, that would be pretty nice, too.
My Program:
A whole foods diet that focuses on good meats, vegetables, fruits, and nuts, with a whole grain on occasion. My trainer has me doing a fairly typical weight-lifting regimen. Lots of leg presses, squats, and lunges for the lower body, bench presses, lat pull-downs, and rows for the upper body, abs work each time, and a few exercises at the end for the glamor muscles. For endurance cardio, I'm a fan of my gym's cycling class. But I really like intervals like doing burpees for speed or doing sets of kettlebell swings: those leave me a sweaty puddle in only 10 minutes.
Personal Information:
I am a musician in the United States Navy, and I'm friggin' proud of it! I have a master's degree in clarinet performance from the University of North Texas and a bachelor's from The Ohio State University, and I'm pretty proud of that, too! I have a loving husband who has supported me in all these positions and followed me around the country in spite of the hardship it puts on him, and I'm pretty proud of him! I currently reside in the beautiful, if touristy, town of Newport, RI. I went from the largest state in the continental U.S. to the smallest state. Go figure. I love cooking, I love fitness, I love food, and I love being able to talk about those things. Even in the Navy, there are some doughy people out there. I like that I found some similar-minded people here on SparkPeople!
Other Information:
Hmmm, if it's not personal and it's not about my program, I'm not sure what else there is, so this is a spot for me to ponder.

Healthy eating on a student budget is brutal! I can still remember the price of various staple groceries from my undergraduate years . . . and that's a while back!!

My DH and I have a similar thing when it comes to eating out: he orders the gooey fudge dessert, and I have one tiny forkful. Works for us!!
