I Started SP the end of Jan. 2009. Briefly, I have always had some issues with my weight. I had had some success with diets, most notably WW where I was able to get down to 138 very briefly and settled into 143 comfortably. My lifetime WW weight goal was 153 which was easily bypassed at that time.

Sadly, I made the huge dieters mistake of thinking of it as something with a beginning and an end and once I was no longer tracking all my food and exercise I fell back into old habits.

So in the years after WW I struggled just to keep from zooming totally out of control.

When I found SP in Jan. I was determined that this was not a diet. A beginning yes....the first day of the rest of my life sort of thing....but no end....this is a healthy lifestyle quest and it has to be habits that last forever. So at this point, I haven't met my weight goal quite yet....I have met a lot of fitness and appearance goals and I have met myself metaphorically and I really like this new friend.

    ACK! Lindor Truffles are like the Pringles ad for me ... I can't stop with just one. I usually stick to Dove Dark Chocolate but they are no where near the quality of the "good stuff." emoticon

    Well, you can teach an old dog new tricks but it sure seems to take this old dog lots longer to learn any new tricks than it used to take. emoticon emoticon

    I am sure you are enjoying this fantastic Fall weather we've been having. It has certainly helped me keep up with yard work at home and at Dad's. Everyone in the family seems to be succumbing to this virus going around...except me. So far.

    I think the Charlie, Molly and Tony only let me in their lives because I have an opposable thumb and therefore can get them their food...and open the door to let them out. LOL

    You're right that my stepmother's situation has changed. It really is amazing what has happened in the last 10 days and what her functional level is now. I finally went to see her yesterday in the nursing home. They discourage unassisted ambulation due to fall concerns, she can no longer feed herself and her swallow is delayed so they need to tweak her diet. She doesn't speak louder than a whisper. She did answer yes/no questions like are you hungry, do you want to go for a walk. All were no answers so which makes me wonder about comprehension. She had life in her eyes though and I haven't seen that for a few days.

    I'm going to get Dad tomorrow morning and bring him over here. He has an appointment at the Clinic tomorrow and several appointments at the Clinic on Tuesday so he'll stay overnight. We have had someone with him every day since my stepmother went into a facility. Not 24/7 after the first two days but some time every day.

    My diet has really been suffering. Not so much calorie wise since my weight isn't changing (apparently I have learned a few things on Spark People) but I eat in restaurants too much including fast food and those places had become very rare for me. So...not a lot of whole foods. Skipped meals sometimes too. My energy level seems to have been affected but I force myself to get those fitness minutes.

    Well, John deleted Word and Excel last night. Accidentally but that just means another problem to be handled today. I told the dogs to just give me 10 minutes to rest this morning and immediately one of them asked to go out. Really? I need a vacation.
