I Started SP the end of Jan. 2009. Briefly, I have always had some issues with my weight. I had had some success with diets, most notably WW where I was able to get down to 138 very briefly and settled into 143 comfortably. My lifetime WW weight goal was 153 which was easily bypassed at that time.

Sadly, I made the huge dieters mistake of thinking of it as something with a beginning and an end and once I was no longer tracking all my food and exercise I fell back into old habits.

So in the years after WW I struggled just to keep from zooming totally out of control.

When I found SP in Jan. I was determined that this was not a diet. A beginning yes....the first day of the rest of my life sort of thing....but no end....this is a healthy lifestyle quest and it has to be habits that last forever. So at this point, I haven't met my weight goal quite yet....I have met a lot of fitness and appearance goals and I have met myself metaphorically and I really like this new friend.

1 Drink at least 8 glasses of water /day
2-Measure and track all food- increase sv of wh. grains & fish.
3-ST with spec attn to core.
4- stretch with spec attn to IT band.

    We have a neighbor helping with the yard work but I think John is frustrated that he can't do more. He's used to relying on me and I am no help now. It's true, though, that the brace helped people understand and remember I'm limited. I put one of my activity schedules from PT up on a cupboard door.

    Molly and a rake. Great idea. Tony needs one too.

    Thanks for stopping by my blog. It sure is nice to be free of the collar. I find I have less tension in my shoulders this way. Apparently I've been inadvertently trying to hold the collar up with my shoulders. As if the closures would fail. LOL

    Thanks for your support Donna. After I wrote that blog, it occurred to me that the doctor had to tell me all the awful things because that's his job. He says he has never had a patient become paralyzed following this surgery though it can happen. Hard to hear but you have to know. After talking to me, he asked what I wanted to do and I said I did not think there was a choice. Surgery is the only hope. I cannot emphasize enough how much I like this surgeon. During pre-op, a couple of the people I saw mentioned how thorough and compassionate he is and that is what I believe too.

    I don't know what the weather is like by you but it's raining cats and dogs here. Makes steps hard to get.

    Thanks for your informed comments on my blog. The MRI tech told me that the radiologist had seen something on my first set of views yesterday and wanted to have a better look at them. They did what he wanted and then he asked for more yet. I shouldn't even consider what the tech said though as it was second hand and who knows how the radiologist said it.

    I was disappointed not to see the neurosurgeon yesterday though I'm not really sure how he could have had much for results and this gives him time to take a thorough look and make a plan. I think we will all be happier with that.

    I did look up my blood work results. He had the labs done to check kidney function and they were all within normal limits. So, that's a piece of good news.

    Thank you for the comment on my blog. Weighing in everday does cause me to stress about the ups and downs. Thats why I won't do it. When I weigh in only once a week. I usually see a down. Maybe not much but still a down. Or at least I did last time I tried to get back on track. Here's to hoping. :)
