Slow and Steady Wins the Race

I started taking Russian ballet again in Spring 2007. I switched from jazz. I've been dancing off and on since I was little. I'm not the best dancer in the world; I'd say I'm an advanced intermediate. But I love, love, love it! And am thrilled that I'm continuing to improve. Plus, I'm very proud to be pushing 50 and still be en pointe.

Since starting back I've performed twice, once in each of the subsequent Spring recitals, I was also cast in my studio's annual performance ...

Plus, I'm very proud to be pushing 50 and still be en pointe.

Since starting back I've performed twice, once in each of the subsequent Spring recitals, I was also cast in my studio's annual performance of The Nutcracker in 2007 and 2008, but was side lined both years due to a pulled gastrocnemious. And last year as an added bonus I got sciatica. I auditioned again for the 2009 performance; castings will be posted soon. My primary goal for this year is to not get injured, and also to lean down a bit before the show.

I've been stuck at 10 to 15 pounds above my ideal weight for the last dozen years or so. After 3 years of trying everything until something worked, I'm down from just over 140 to just over 130. Just 5 to 10 pounds to go!!! I am determined not to give up until I reach my goal.

My Goals:
To become a lean, mean, dancing machine!

My Program:
(1) Exercise 5-6x per week religiously.
(2) Take supplements regularly, including CLA, fiber and cranberry juice.
(3) Before I eat, ask myself if I'm really hunger, or just nervous.

My favorite home exercise DVDs are Power Yoga with Rodney Yee and The Bar Method. What are yours?

I wasn't nearly as nervous performing in The Nutcracker as I had been at the Spring recital last year. In fact, I had a blast. If I had a variation I might freak out, but I'll cross that bridge if and when I get to it. Thanks for the tips on the homeopathic remedies.

just read your blog about taking beta blockers to keep nerves in check. have you thought about natural remedies? I took beta blockers for a short time and they gave me wierd side effects. it's quite a serious medicine to start on.
You could try flower essences - Bach Rescue Remedy is a good one for general shock.
Homeopathic remedies for stage fright nerves are
Lycopodium - nervous but alright once started
Gelsemium - shaking with nerves and fluff it completely
Argent Nit - impatient and anxious
Try taking the one that suits you 30 c potency every 10 mins for 3 doses before going on and see if that helps!
It's natural and not too expensive
