Deb's Journey
I realized in the spring of 2009 that my weight had reached both an unhealthy level and one that I wasn't comfortable with anymore. Historically, I have always been physically active and not had trouble keeping my weight at a healthy level. I realized in the spring of 2009 that my weight had reached both an unhealthy level and one that I wasn't comfortable with anymore. Historically, I have always been physically active and not had trouble keeping my weight at a healthy level. I believe that my downfall began when I switched careers from nursing to real estate-from on my feet all day to sitting at a desk or driving people around. This combined with my previously unhealthy predisposition to eat unhealthy foods (chocolate, ice cream, and anything sweet) was not good for my overall health for sure. It took the scales hitting an all time high weight for me to wake up and smell the coffee. Luckily, between hypnosis and sparkpeople I had all the tools and assistance I needed to start the journey back to good health. The hypnosis helped with my food binges, to the point I no longer even have the desire to sit down and eat multiple portions of foods that are not healthy for me. Sparkpeople was wonderful and helped me stay on track, but most importantly to keep track of how much I was actually consuming. Since I have hit my goal weight, I now just need to keep on doing what has worked for me: Exercise and moderation in diet. I am aiming to keep my weight at 135-138 lbs. I have read that maintaining weight is much more difficult than loosing, and that the worst thing I can do now is to slack off on my time spent exercising. So, I will continue to get a good amount of exercise weekly and strive to make progress in my fitness levels as well.

My Goals:
To maintain my weight between 135 lbs and 138 lbs. To become more physically active, stronger and faster on my road bike. Finally, I really want to be able to run again. I am going to start trying to run a short distance each work out and see how my knees tolerate it.
My Program:
Counting calories and exercising regularly. I am a nurse, so I know what I should eat, I just need to stick with it. I also need to be more consistent with my exercise which has suffered since I went back to school. I now try to get at least some exercise every day that I'm not working (4 days a week).
Personal Information:
I'm a mom, a wife and work full time as an emergency room nurse. I am also finishing up my bachelors degree in nursing so my free time is minimal. Once I finish my degree this spring I plan to go straight to a nurse practitioner program. My interests are cycling, gardening, beekeeping, reading, I volunteer as a Master Gardener for the county I live in. I also love taking my dogs for walks and even run a little when my knees feel up to it.
