I have been a member of SparkPeople since April of 2006. Since then, I've gained and lost and regained the same twenty-five pounds. :P In that time, I have walked and completed four half marathons and one 5k.

I suffered a serious back injury in May 2015, which has caused me to pretty much stop all exercise. I have let myself eat whatever I wanted whenever I wanted, for all the wrong reasons (and steroids are no help whatsoever). I now find myself slightly above my previous highest weight, and I'm desperately trying to stop the proverbial bleeding with regard to weight gain. I'm returning slowly to the way I used to eat--mostly plant-based. The thing I'm concentrating most on removing from my diet is dairy. I am finally able to do some exercise--physical therapy exercises and Leslie Sansone low-impact DVDs--and will keep doing it as long as it doesn't hurt me.

My Goals:
Having to rethink these after my back injury. Right now, small steps:
--reduce my blood pressure medication (been trying to keep my BP under control has been a struggle with this back injury...definitely tied to pain levels).
--lose 15 pounds and get back into the clothes I had to temporarily pack away. (GOAL MET!)
--start exercising slowly, with the blessing of my doctor. I may have to work my way back up to walking, but I'm looking into Tai Chi. (GOAL MET!)
--lose 15 more pounds to get back to my previous weight. Then I'll start again. ;) (GOAL MET!)
--Longer-term goal: get healthy enough to walk another half-marathon. I have a long way to go to get healthy again, but I'm determined.

My Program:
Right now, determined to reverse some of the chronic inflammation and pain I have. I can do this partly through diet, which is what I'm choosing to concentrate on at the moment. I have finally been able to do some exercise, which will help with movement.

Personal Information:
My name is Christine, and I live on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. I have some chronic health issues that I live with, including PCOS, high blood pressure, chronic knee and joint problems, and degenerative disk disease. I was also diagnosed with a fatty liver in 2012. I herniated my L5-S1 disk in the summer of 2015 and am still recovering from that injury.
